Everything you need for a track timer!
I’ve been using PB buddy for about 5 track days now and I love it! No gimmicks, just what you need and a very usable interface.
Better and Easier to Use than Most More Expensive Lap Timer Setups
In the past 10+ years, I tried various lap timers including Harry’s Lap Timer, AIM Solo 2 DL, and Garmin Catalyst. They each had pros and cons in terms usability, dependency on external devices, accuracy, and maybe most importantly availability. My use case is very simple. I want to be able to time my laps fairly accurately and review some basic data post track day, such as min/max speeds at each corner. In other words, I don’t (want to) spend hours on data analysis after each track day. Very simple ask right? Well… All of those lap timers I mentioned earlier let me down at track at least once. Either the device wouldn’t power on or it couldn’t get a gps signal or find the track. When I saw that PB Buddy offers similar live timing as Catalyst with color coded time deltas during a session and optimal time, I decided to give it a try. Because why not? Much less bulky, no cables needed, no camera required, just need my iphone and racebox mini. Super lightweight and easy to use setup. I’ve used it in multiple track days since last year and I love it. It’s continuously getting better and I’m sure there is a lot more to come. I personally cannot wait for some in-app data analysis even if it means just starting with some basic things like min/max speeds per lap per corner etc. maybe displayed on a map. Anyway… Just give it a try, you won’t regret it!

Response from developer
Thanks for your kind words, cntzl! In-app data analysis features are coming soon, but in the meantime, you can use the “Export to CSV” function to export data recorded with PB Buddy and open it in a third-party data analysis tool.
Shave Seconds Off With PB BUDDY
This app has been a game changer.
The color gradient and sector splits allow you to very very quickly understand if you’re on a flyer and where you are losing or gaining time. It works so well in your peripheral compared to other lap times (cough cough aim) and I found myself getting immediate feedback on my lines/braking zones. This means immediate adjustments during your session rather than having to review the data in the hot pits. Cannot recommend PB Buddy enough and highly encourage everyone to give it a try at their next HPDE or TA event.

Perfect for track days
I’ve tried this app at the track and I’m impressed. The UI is clean, intuitive, and follows a "1-2-3" logic. The buttons are large enough to operate even while wearing racing gloves right before a session, which is a huge plus. The timing display is very clear; you only need a split-second glance on the straightaway to read your data. I used my phone's built-in GPS, and it worked flawlessly, pinpointing my location without any issues. Looking forward to future updates!

Like mini data analysis while on track
PB buddy is my favorite lap timer for getting a sense for where I can improve while out driving on track. The color system makes it easy to tell how much you’ve improved or fallen behind at a glance and the sector display does a nice job of showing where on track you netted that gain or loss. This simple feedback helps me actively improve my technique while I’m driving. I’ve found that other timers tend to require keeping mental tabs on how much a predictive timer changes each corner, which is quite distracting. In contrast, the color feedback from PB buddy is both immediate and easy to parse at a glance. It’s just the right amount of information to be helpful while allowing you to focus the majority of your attention on driving. Works great with racerender too.

The Missing Piece
There are various lap timers out there, but they all lacked the main feature I love about PB Buddy. The live color scaling feature and giving me immediate feedback if something worked or not in a corner that I may be experimenting with.

The predictive lap timing is genuinely useful, and the color-coded sector system makes it immediately clear where you’re gaining or losing time in real time. No digging through data after the session — you know exactly what’s happening while it’s happening.
The ability to break sectors down into smaller chunks is a big deal for serious development work. It lets you get granular on specific corners rather than just looking at broad splits.
Whether you’re just getting started in HPDE or competing at a high level, this app meets you where you’re at. I’ve used it to secure multiple P1s in California N Cup and podiums in NASA Time Trials — it’s even replaced my Garmin Catalyst entirely. That should say enough.

My favorite lap timer
This is by far my favorite lap timer out there for three main reasons:
1. The large colorful readout for both the timing and sectors, letting you know when you’re going purple (new pb) or your last turn may have not been your best (yellow sector).
2. The quick startup and automated track selection (great when late to grid).
3. Ability to export CSV data for analysis in other apps and systems / rendering on videos.
Overall, a great lap timer!

Great track day app
I’ve now used this app on three different tracks with a RaceBox mini. I love the way it gives feedback on each segment as you drive. Also I’m color blind but it has color options that work perfectly for me. I have a garmin catalyst and run it at the same time with a blank screen while I use this app for real time feedback
