Now works on modern devices!

What a pleasant surprise when I saw this wonderful musical glasses like app was just updated for modern devices for the first time in 7 years! The audio is no longer distorted, although there was a workaround if you opened a random app in AUM then open Phase Rings standalone, but now it just works.

Response from developer

Thanks for noticing! I'm thrilled it is back too :-) New version going into review today will be a modern auv3 instrument. Finally catching up with the world!

Revisiting older downloads...

...and rediscovered this gem.

7 odd years old but still great fun.

Simple to use & tiny in size 5/5

Brilliant

This is a brilliant idea. However works perfectly on iPhone 12 yet distorted sound on iPad (8th gen) Both on iOS 15.. any ideas ?

Headphone users

This sounds terrible with headphones in and I don’t know why? Tried two different pairs and all other audio is fine.

No it’s not useless !!

Previous reviews have said this app is pointless, well I beg to differ. If you open PhaseRings and then open the alchemy synth in GarageBand, PhaseRings controls the playing of the synth and also blends it’s own sounds. All of which can then be recorded into another app via audiobus. I’ve been getting some lush sweeping synth samples, especially fed through the Kosmonaut delay effect app. Like a lot of these freebie synths, it just takes a bit imagination to get some nice music from them !!! I haven’t tried it with other synths yet, but I reckon there’s more that will connect to it. Playing the rings like you would a wet finger round the top of a glass is nice way to manipulate a synth I find... try it :0)

Fun

After all the money I’ve spent on music apps, this is still my favorite. It’s super fun to play with and it sounds great.

Midi doesn’t work.

Love the sounds. But the midi doesn’t work.

Cool!!!

This is a great app for my kids to create music on my phone, although I know that probably wasn't the intention! The sound choices are unique and appealing. I'd love to see a chromatic option in future updates.

Bravo!

Nice unique alternative sound generator and MIDI controller.
Amazingly it is AudioBus compatible!

Love it!

This is stunning, I only wish it was a tad louder.

Soothing

Very cool and fun

Pretty cool for free

Does anyone find the volume(through the phone speaker) really low?

Very interesting sounds

The wine-glass like expression of this synth gives it a very strange but beautiful sound. It's a shame that the end user doesn't appear to have access to any of the underlying elements of the synth, but perhaps that contributes to the simple, streamlined nature of the app. With Audiobus? For free? Thank you so much for bringing this to the App Store.

AudioBus makes this a must!

With AudioBus support, and the right filters, this unassuming app can produce marvellous, unearthly sounds. Now, how about adding yet more sound options, and the ability to import our own samples?

Wonderful sounds

This app was great but now that it has Audiobus it is a performance ready app. So far it performs as expected and I am surprised there are not more raving reviews.

.....always a missing!

A U D I O B U S !?!? ...... crying out for it. Much potential here... I would pay in app purchase for Audiobus on this!

In the making?

I downloaded after seeing 'the sound test room' review. There's some real potential here. The sounds are good - very playable. It cries out for audiobus (and maybe it's own oscillator page to make theremin type sounds?)
So I hope the developer sticks with it!

Fascinating - could be much more

I’m rating this highly because it makes lovely sounds - an important criterion! - but could do with some development - IAA, clearer control, of harmony etc - but very nice and unusual.

Yet another pointless waste of time to download then delete

First time I used this it had three rings, each a different frequency tone, the second, it had five rings. You can put your finger on a ring and it emits a tone for duration your finger is on the ring. That's it. Nothing else happens, there's no other controls, there's no documentation or assistance, this is all it does. I didn't try it over midi to another proper synth because I can't imagine a circumstance where I'd need that particular group of three notes only.
Despite the iTunes page claims, there are no compositions / setups in any expected sense of the words. It just makes a tone and that's it. There's no "generative composition engine". You put your finger on one of the rings, it makes a tone.
This app was deleted in less time than it took to type this (what is this, a review, complaint, warning, retort? I wouldn't deem the purpose of this action a review but the box says review) blindly into the App Store review area with the keyboard obscuring what I'm typing as usual.

Beeeyootiful Sounds! 🔔🙇🔔

This obviously a gift from the music gods. The droning tones are brilliantly deep and rich. It's a wonderful start that's missing InterAppAudio and AudioBus, but that doesn't mean it deserves less than five stars to kickstart the reviews with my hat-tip to the developer. Thank you for a chin-scratching and wonderful auditory app.
