About
You're the same person in every group chat. Family sees your nickname. Coworkers see your real name. That group chat from a dating app three years ago just has your first name. It's still you, but who you are with each chat group is a different side of you.
Pigeon lets you be a different person in every conversation, on purpose. With text-based private messaging and tons of customization options, the way your messaging app should be.
You can find tons of customization options all messaging apps should have, including:
- Mix and match 4 background colors + 20 accent colors so you can set your favorite
- Manage roles per chat - add, kick, or leave a chat
- Customize how the chat layouts look to you
- Permanently delete all your messages from a chat in a few taps
- Order chats top to bottom or bottom to top and much more
- Customize chat and message swipe options
- Manage emojis
- Mute and pin chats
- Choose your level of security when opening Pigeon
- Chat with support directly within the app
Set a name and photo for each chat individually. To your book club you're "Sam." To your landlord you're "S. Reyes." To the group chat that formed around a group project two jobs ago, you can be whoever you were when it started — or nobody at all. Nobody in one chat can see who you are in another. There's no public or discoverable profile tying it together for anyone but you.
Underneath the names, Pigeon is built so who you are and what you say is only unlocked on your device. Not your messages, not your chat names, not the names you pick. Everything is encrypted on your device before it's sent — actual end-to-end encryption, not "encrypted in transit" that a company can still read on the other end. Even the server holding your messages while you're offline only ever holds ciphertext — it can relay them but it can't read them, and we can't decrypt them even if we wanted to.
Go offline and come back to all your messages that arrived while you were away, all still unreadable to anyone but you and the person who sent them.
Here's what you actually get:
- A group chat you can join with your choice of public name.
- A way to talk to people from work, family, and old friends without those worlds crossing into each other.
- The ability to change your mind. Rename yourself in a chat any time, no explanation owed.
- One phone unlock (Face ID or passcode) standing between someone picking up your phone and every conversation you've ever had — configurable to prompt every time you background the app, only on cold launch, or not at all.
- The quiet fact that whoever runs the servers this app depends on cannot read a single message you've sent, on this feature or any other.
- This isn't privacy as a marketing checkbox. It's privacy as the actual architecture: your identity is something you control per-conversation, and your content is something only the people in that conversation can ever open.
Download Pigeon. Start a chat. Pick who you are in each chat. Customize just for you.
No ads. No tracking. No data broker deals, because there's no data to broker. Just messaging that works the way it should have all along, where "who you are" is your call, chat by chat.
