Can’t import PGP keys?
doesn’t work
Request the support of elliptic curve ciphers
When I try to import the key with Ed25519 and NIST P-521, the app crashed with no error message.
I wish i could give a true review
Id love to give something here but so far it’ll crash and tkme I attempt to encrypt or any function
Has potential, but not for people already with private keys
Pros:
- The user interface is lovely. It feels modern and is pretty to look at, which is something I can’t say about many other similar apps.
- The key creation works well. It makes it easy to share the public key with the openpgp key server and provides a QR code for the fingerprint of the key.
- One can also export their public key to a file and import it elsewhere (such as through GnuPG)
- The Share Extension makes it very easy to decrypt messages: you can highlight the encrypted text, then share it to the Pignus, where it will decrypt and display the message.
Cons:
- I did not manage to import any of my own private keys. I tested this with both RSA 3072 and ED25519 keys and the application immediately crashed. This issue alone makes the application useless to people that already use PGP.
- I couldn’t import my public key from the keyserver, or as a file.
- There isn’t an ability to sign messages - you can only encrypt.
- I couldn’t find a way to revoke my key. This is very important for security and is absolutely needed.
- No obvious way to change keyserver.
- There are also no options to change the type of key, or how it’s generated. You can only use RSA3072. The generated keys also don’t expire, which maybe be for simplicity, but is a security risk.
In summary, whilst the application looks nice, it lacks basic functionality that means people already invested in PGP won’t be able to use the application. I’m hoping that some of these issues will be addressed as the app is one of the only ones of its type with a nice user interface!
It’s okay
Response from developer
Hello, can you please send us an email to pignus@frobese.io when any one or more keys than cannot be imported to analyze the problem.
Can only generate 3072 bit keys
Response from developer
Hello, you can import any PGP key generated in another application to be used in Pignus.
Great app
I have one issue:
1. Encryption of documents cannot be completed. The app crashes each time this is attempted.
Once updated, I can re-rate this app with five stars.
Thank you.

Can’t import...
Response from developer
Hello, we're very sorry that it isn't possible for you to import you backed up Profile or Contacts. Can you please send us a mail to pignus@frobese.de to solve that problem with you.
Perfect PGP app!
Only crashes
Response from developer
Hello, can you please send us a mail from within Pignus to check why your Contacts can‘t be imported.
Doesn’t accept secure passwords
While creating your initial profile, it requires name, email, and password.
Password MUST have:
* at least 8 characters
* at least one letter
* at least one number
* at least one of the following special characters: (@$!%*#?&) and possibly .
It's not clear whether the '.' in the instructions is part of the list or just the end punctuation. For that matter, the parentheses might not be valid either.
If any field is incorrect, you are not able to create an account and start using the app. However, the app does not indicate WHAT is wrong in the fields.
I've been struggling to reverse engineer the password recipe. "test8@test" works (not including the quotes.)
No password I've generated using a secure password generator has passed their filters. From this I infer that the following additional rules are in place:
* Password may not contain '"-,/:;[]{}^+=_\|~<> characters.
* Not sure about '.'
* Capital characters might not be allowed
* I'm frustrated and giving up.
Response from developer
Hello, the password must contain at least 8 characters, one letter, one number and one special character of the following @$!%*#?& Capital letters are also valid. Hope you give it one more chance and try with this description. We'll make the process of Profile creation clearer in an upcoming version of Pignus.
Great App from a terrific developer
The app works flawlessly now and I highly recommend this app !!!
Lame.
Response from developer
Hallo, we are sad that you can't import your own account into Pignus. Please check that a Profile in Pignus needs to consist of a private-public-keypair. To solve this problem can you please send us a mail to pignus@frobese.de
Excellent App
The best ever
Works excellent, cleanest UI, please add multi-user support
System-wide decryption and encryption on the fly and the ability to import and export keys easily with a contact list on hand as well. It can also remember your password for you.
One feature I would like to have added is the ability to have multiple signing profiles, having only one feels very limiting.
Otherwise a great app for PGP!!!
Response from developer
Hello, now you can create or import multiple Profiles in Pignus.
