About
What's New in Pilcrow
1.1.2
October 6, 2026
A quicker way between your languages, a purchase that follows your Apple Account, a backup of everything the keyboard has learned, and keys with depth. SWITCH LANGUAGE WITH A SLIDE Slide a finger along the space bar to change language: right for the next, left for the previous. The space bar now shows the language you are typing in. Hold the space bar and the keyboard is still a trackpad. Prefer the slide to move the cursor, as before? Settings, Gestures & feel. And when you start a new sentence in your other language, the keyboard follows you sooner. YOUR PURCHASE, WHEREVER YOU INSTALL IT Delete Pilcrow and install it again, or set it up on another iPhone or iPad signed in to the same Apple Account, and it opens already unlocked, without tapping Restore. On a device where the App Store cannot tell us which account bought it, Restore still works as before. There is still no account to make: the app uses an identifier Apple gives it for your copy of Pilcrow, which carries no name or email, and only to keep your purchase with you. BACK UP WHAT IT HAS LEARNED Your words, spellings, phrases and corrections can now be saved as a file, under Dictionary, and restored on a new phone or after you have cleared them. A restore adds to what is already there and never replaces it. Backing up needs Full Access, because without it the app cannot read what the keyboard has learned; restoring does not. KEYS WITH DEPTH Two new themes, Keycap and Ember, stand each key on an edge of its own colour, and every key now presses down under your finger. Ten older themes have left the picker; if you used one, the keyboard moves to Automatic or Pilcrow. The keys also follow the keyboard's own light or dark look, so they no longer turn light on a dark keyboard in some apps. PREDICTIONS THAT KNOW YOUR HABITS A word you keep writing after another now comes first in the predictions. In eleven languages, strong swear words are no longer suggested until you have typed them yourself. BETTER ACCENTS AND CORRECTIONS In many languages a skipped accent is now put back using the word before it and the rest of the sentence, and corrections weigh your languages against each other more fairly when you write in two. FORTY LANGUAGES Two more written right to left, one of them with a key of its own for joining the parts of a word, as its iPhone keyboard has. LIGHTER ON EMOJI The emoji panel now keeps in memory only what is on screen, so browsing every category no longer weighs the keyboard down. The emoji are a little smaller too. The unlock screen now shows every plan at once. The keyboard still contains no networking code.
