What's New in Pipilo

1.7

June 16, 2026

- Edit history displays rich diff, highlighting what changed after each edit. - Added indicator above each post in the home timeline, showing the followed hashtags mentioned in that post. - Font size configuration. Applied in addition to system Dynamic Type sizing, can be used to configure size of non-chrome content in the app. - Bookmark button is always visible under posts (if supported by server). - Current user mentions are highlighted with bold gold color for better visibility. - Updated styling of mention notifications to use the same gold color as new mention highlights. - You can long-press like or boost buttons to display a list of people who reacted to the post. - A push notification about favorite or boosting a post will open the reaction list when tapped. - Access list of muted and blocked users with quick actions to undo. - Search screen allows switching accounts when signed in to multiple accounts. - Search screen shows trending suggestions instead of empty screen. - Search results properly handle deleted posts. - List of followed users is searchable. - Hidden note about not all followers being displayed when viewing your own followers. - Updated styling of links/hashtags/mentions when displayed inside search results to indicate that they aren't clickable individually on that screen. - Added dismiss button to toast informing about new version. - Improved new release toast drag to dismiss gesture. - Improved performance of navigation between posts. - Updated posts navigation animations during very quick navigation to avoid rare crashes. Previously you would see all the posts very quickly animating as you pass them. Unfortunately due to system limitation this would sometimes result in crashes. As a workaround, the animation now sometimes won't show all passed through posts while still ensuring that you land on correct post. - Added the `pipilo` URL scheme for opening posts with an optional account, for example `pipilo://@user@host/open?url=POST_URL`. Omit the account to use the active one. - Added filter in user profiles allowing to view all user's activity, including their own posts, replies, and boosts. - User avatars in profiles will display their alt-text descriptions if provided by user. - Improved accessibility of deleted posts. - Posts with block quotes are properly styled. - Updated styling of bullet lists in posts. - Changed icon of “reply to post” action to arrow. - Renamed "Open Link" actions to "Open in Browser". - Updated "Create Filter" hashtag action to include ellipsis "…" in order to indicate that the filter won't be created immediately. - Simplified iCloud status screen to be more user friendly. - Added support for fallback notifications, which will ensure all future notifications will start appearing in the app without the need for update. - Filtering notifications no longer shows empty today page if unnecessary. - Notification about edited post redirects to edit history screen. - Changed wording of post edited notifications. ### Bug fixes - Fixed navigation menu jumps when new posts start or stop loading. - Fixed invalid hashtag suggestions when searching for url. - Fixed some menus contained unlabeled submenus on macOS. - Fixed the issue where the app rarely crashes or navigates to incorrect posts after swiping past the last post in the timeline. - Fixed the issue where some links in posts incorrectly open the hashtag timeline instead of the browser. - Fixed the issue where the close button incorrectly goes back one screen instead of closing the modal sheet in some places. - Fixed returning to app sometimes displayed timeout error instead of posts. - Fixed link highlighting in post composer incorrectly highlighting links with special characters. - Fixed limit reached background color highlight being incorrect when there are long links in post. App challenges but great tech support

I've logged into my Friendica server (my-place.social) over 10 times, authentication is successful each time. However, there was no way to get back to the app feed without hitting "cancel" from the internal browser, completely losing the authenticated session.

The developer reached out swiftly to offer help. I posted this on a week when there have been a couple family emergencies, so the only reason it's not 100% fixed yet is because I'm slow make use of the offered support -- but the developer is friendly, helpful, professional, patient, and has made easy support resolution available to me that I'm sure will work out well as I make use of more of the resources.

Response from developer

After additional info from the user, we discovered the issue. The problem is with Friendica and two-factor authentication. Currently, there is a bug where Friendica doesn't redirect back to the app, preventing us from being able to finish authorization. The problem was reported to Friendica. While we wait for a fix, the app was updated to include a warning with an explanation to inform anyone else who could run into the same problem.

Possibly malicious

I've logged into my Friendica server (my-place.social) over 10 times, authentication is successful each time. However, there is literally no way to get back to the app feed without hitting "cancel" from the internal browser, completely losing the authenticated session.

I'm looking for an ios/ipados app that will let me log into my mastodon, lemmy, pixelfed, friendica, peertube, etc accounts so to have a unified feed for all my fediverse servers. If this can't let me even log into a single account, then it's light years away from getting my money for a crummy app not even out of beta.

Response from developer

Thank you for the info and sorry for the problem. This definitely shouldn’t be happening. Please contact me via mail (pipilo@thanel.me) with additional information and together we might find the cause of the issue. Usually the flow looks like this: When you sign in from the app it opens login page on your instance of choice. Once logged in here, the page redirects you to page where you have to press “yes” to authorize. This will then cause web page to close internal browser and redirect you back to app with necessary info. All of that is happening outside my control. If it is not working like this for you there might be something preventing it. A few more details might help. What page appears for you instead, does authorization screen appear, where does the webpage redirect you after login? In all the attempts was the flow always the same? Did you try signing out on the webpage first and then trying again? Alternatively you might want to try signing to other services you mentioned first, perhaps only this specific account is problematic? I’m unfortunately unable to reproduce this problem myself. I created an account on my-place.social and could login to the app correctly.

Superbly done

A novel and interesting Fediverse client app. Lots of nice details and beautiful UI.

Highly recommended 👍.

Almost Perfect!

I think this is a fantastic way of viewing threaded content, and I can’t wait to use this more!

As a feature request, I’d REALLY like to be able to dismiss sheet modals with the swipe-down gesture. The rest of the gesture-driven UI is EXCELLENT.

Response from developer

Thank you, as of version 1.4 all modal screens support swipe-down to dismiss gesture.

Notifications

It would be five stars but there doesn’t seem to be a way to receive notifications.

EDIT: I changed to 5 stars. Very well made app and responsive developer. The horizontal feed, along with how notifications are handled, makes this a one of a kind mastodon app. Highly recommend.

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback. Notifications are available starting with version 1.1.
