Way better before the pay wall

Pirr AI used to be worth using. Now it’s buried under a paywall and has become one of the most frustrating AI apps I’ve tried.

What was once a fun, accessible app now feels like a constant attempt to squeeze money out of users. Features that made the app enjoyable are locked behind subscriptions, and the free experience is so restricted that it’s barely usable. Every time you try to do something, you’re reminded that you need to pay.

The worst part is that the app has gotten less enjoyable while becoming more expensive. There are plenty of AI apps that offer more value without aggressively limiting users at every turn.

I can’t recommend Pirr AI in its current state. If you’re looking for an AI storytelling app, there are better options that don’t put nearly everything behind a paywall.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand how the current limits can feel frustrating, especially if you were used to broader access before. The free version is designed as a limited way to try Pirr, while premium access supports ongoing development and unlocks the full creative experience.

Okay

It’s pretty good, definitely a bit steep for the pricing but has a lot of features for writing and with the most recent updates it feels much more natural and flows better with more variation in sentence structure. I will say that with the last update, any prompt I try to put it will crash the generator, even prompts suggested. I CONSTANTLY have to completely close out the app and reopen it to try the prompts over and over again to try and get them to work. I also wish the 500 advance response thing (I forget what it’s called) had a way to replenish other than waiting for the beginning of the next month, even if it’s like $1 for another 150 responses or something, since I keep going through them so fast and then it reverts to the old generator and doesn’t feel the same and also just won’t match details from the advance generator

It’s a good app, just needs more refining and more options

Response from developer

Thank you for such a thoughtful review, and for noticing the improvements to the writing experience. We're really pleased to hear the newer generation model feels more natural and varied. We're also sorry to hear you're running into crashes when using prompts. That's definitely not the intended experience. Our team is actively investigating reports of prompt-related issues and feedback like yours helps us track down and resolve them faster. If you would like to send a more detailed account to support@pirr.me that would be great. Regarding superior actions, we're glad to hear you're getting so much use out of them! We know many of our most engaged writers love additional ways to top up their credits. Credit packs are something we've introduced, but we're currently working through some App Store-related issues affecting purchases and hope to have a smoother experience available as soon as possible. Thank you again for taking the time to share both the positives and the areas where we can improve. Feedback from long-time creators helps shape the future of Pirr.

My creative outlet

I enjoy this app so much. It’s very user friendly and the ai allows me to easily continue my story without losing steam. I’m also loving the updated featured stories on the home page.

Response from developer

Thanks for the glowing review! We appreciate knowing that the featured stories are finding their audience!

Ruined by the pay wall

A couple of years ago the ai was average, perhaps sub par. Came back a few months ago through boredom to find it had been vastly improved, it was great….. then they went and put it behind a pay wall. Which is fine but considered other ai will write the same stuff for free, it’s now rather redundant.

It’s an ok app

It’s a good app but lately I have been having trouble with it saying something like comfort or something saying it’s violent which makes no sense.

Extremely limited

The app itself may still be free, but now you have to pay $13 a month to access many of the basic features, including genre (8 premade options), tags (selected at random, unchangeable), and characters (1 character), which defeats the entire purpose of the app. The current version also limits free users to less than one message per hour (20 actions per 24 hour period) and restricts the number of times an action can be regenerated to 4. Get a response you don’t like? Too bad! Now you’ve lost an action. There’s also no warning for when actions are about to run out which immediately disrupts the flow. Calling this an “generative AI writing app” is incredibly misleading with these types of restrictions.

Hi ScarletTiger, thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We understand how the current limits can feel frustrating, especially if you were used to broader access before. The free version is designed as a limited way to try Pirr, while premium access supports ongoing development and unlocks the full creative experience. We absolutley take note about the action counter. Your feedback is heard and helps us continue refining how we communicate and shape that experience.

Used to be good

I used to love this app, it was
wonderful. It was free, which separated it from so many writing apps. The interface was very user friendly and overall, it was great. But now, the app has changed. Ever since the typewriter update months ago, it has gotten worse. The memory has decreased, it will no longer write explicit scenes, and it just feels different. It directly avoids using any sort of detail, instead opting for the characters to be interrupted. If you do manage to get it to write something uninterrupted, it won’t say any words one could deem “explicit”. If you try to guide the AI, it will do what you want for one paragraph, then it goes back to its vague or avoidant style. I miss how it used to be. But now, I have to pay 13 dollars to get the same experience that I used to get for free. 13 dollars is a lot of money to pay per month. I just wish it would go back to the way that it was, or that the free level included everything that the app used to be, while premium was just new features. I can use other apps for cheaper, but I really hope that they will fix this do that I don't because as I mentioned, the app has a unique design that I love. Overall, I feel sort of tricked, because everything that I used to get for free, I didn't get for several months, and then when they fixed some issues, new ones were
introduced and I suddenly had to pay money for it. I just wish that this would go back to how it was.

Thanks so much for using Pirr and for sharing such a detailed review. We’re really sorry that the recent changes have made the app feel worse for you, especially after you enjoyed the earlier version. That’s not the experience we want for anyone. Pirr is built by a small team and to keep improving and maintaining the app we’ve had to introduce a paid plan and move some of the more intensive features there, while still offering a trimmed down free version for people who choose it. We know 13 dollars/month is a significant commitment and it’s completely fair to compare it with other options. Your feedback about memory, explicit content limits and how the app feels after the typewriter update is really valuable. We can’t promise to return to the exact old setup, but we are actively working on making Pirr feel great to use within the technical and safety constraints we have. If you’re open to it, you’re very welcome to email us at support@pirr.me with more details so we can look more closely at your experience.

Great, another subscription that locks away key features

I understand that in order to keep the lights on, there must be a steady stream of income. It sucks that subscriptions like this are the norm now, and I hate them with a burning passion. So when I saw that such a thing was being implemented here, I was more than disappointed.

That being said, I wouldn’t even mind if the subscriptions didn’t lock away the most BASIC features. Limited amount of actions is fine (you can get a surprising amount with what you’re given). The amount of redos you get is pitifully low, though it’s possible that this is more personal preference on my end. Locking away custom vibes and locations is BEYOND stupid, but it can easily be worked around by mentioning them in the intro prompt.

What I CANNOT forgive is making the max amount of characters to be just ONE. I can’t select more than ONE character without shilling real money. Wanted to generate a story with two specific characters in mind? You’re out of luck. Unlike locations and vibes, characters need much more text to explain (personalities, appearance, etc.), so you either need to find a way to shoehorn the info into a prompt (which you’d have the copy if you want to use the character multiple times) or hope and pray the bot will just get it right or something (Also, it’s way too easy to delete character profiles. Run your finger the wrong way, and it’s gone forever). As you can tell, this was the turning point for me.

I understand needing to generate revenue, but subscriptions should not actively make the user experience more inconvenient. It’s less restrictive than other subscriptions I’ve seen, don’t get me wrong, but the locked features mentioned above make me really reconsider if I want to keep using this.

Lost Stories

Do not sure but since they added tiers, 3-5 of my published stories vanished. I do not know if it is because I am now on the free tier ( which everyone was). The app is good but not sure it is 13$ month good. I have really enjoyed the app so far but if it is deleting my content it’s not safe to create in. I hope this is just a bug.

Deceptive

This app uses deceptive practices that violate basic user trust and App Store policies.
For months, the developers instructed users (via Discord) to ignore "Premium Upgrade" pop-ups, calling them "bugs." Now, they have released a real trial through a pop-up that looks identical.
1. Bait and Switch/False Terms: The pop-up explicitly offered a 30-Day Free Trial. When asked in general on discord it was revealed that it is only 14 days despite the writing on the pop up. Access to premium features ends at 14 and then users must pay. Developers refuse to honor the written 30-day term, claiming the text was "old copy." This is a clear breach of trust and consumer law.
2. Hidden Pricing (Severe Violation): There is NO pricing information inside the app or on this store page. Users are forced to visit external links (Discord/Website) to find out the cost after the trial. This is a severe violation of App Store guidelines on price transparency.
3. Warning: I was not charged because I caught the deception early, but users are being tricked into a paid product after being conditioned to ignore the warning signs.
Do not trust the pop-ups or download this app until all deceptive practices are resolved. This needs to be reviewed by [Apple/Google] for policy compliance.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We understand why this caused confusion and appreciate you raising it. To clarify the trial issue: any users who were shown a 30-day free trial have had that trial honoured in full and affected users were contacted directly. Subscription options and pricing are available in the app under Account Settings → Subscription Management and a free version of Pirr (with limitations) remains available. Paid options are always presented before any charge is made. During this transition period, limited free trials of Premium may be shown, with no obligation to subscribe at the end of the trial. We take user trust and platform guidelines seriously and are continuing to review our in-app messaging to ensure clarity and consistency. Thank you again for the feedback, it helps us improve.

Not cool

Was completely free until a few days ago. Now they have added a 'premium' plan that has no new features just things you could previously do for free and you have to pay a ridiculous amount for

It was good

This app is great because it is free and gives you unlimited generations. It allows you to guide the story and write some stuff as well. I hope they never change this as this app is one of a kind. However, the update in August caused some issues. The writing is really repetitive, it will keep repeating phrases like “a strange flutter in her stomach”, even if I end up using it. There is no variety between the suggestions, no matter how much I refresh, it is still the same paragraph with maybe some wording differences. I still can’t write characters like I used to it. The AI ignores the tones picked when creating the story still and how the character was originally designed to be. Before the typewriter update, I was able to have characters who were just friends or enemies with no romantic feelings between them, now every single character that is in the story is automatically put into a relationship. I understand that this is a romantic AI, but it’s frustrating that I was able to have stories that were more than just romance, with friends and enemies and now I can’t, because they suddenly all have feelings for each other. The tone of the AI is still really flat. Overall, I know that they are a small crew, but the latest update fixed nothing and I really hope it goes back to normal soon, or that they give us some indication that they have been able to find the problems. Overall, I would recommend, once it’s fixed.

It could be good

The newest update fixed a lot of the previous issues that I had! This app is free and provides a great AI writing tool. I love this app and it is a great thing to use to be creative. You are allowed to guide the AI and can refresh the options as many times as you want. You can have three characters, can pick the tones of the story, and can have as many stories as you want. There are still a few bugs: The suggestions aren’t as long as they used to be, they used to be large paragraphs while they are now just three sentences. Also, the suggestions are still very repetitive, there is not much variety no matter how much you refresh the suggestion. Overall, there are still some issues that weren’t there before the update a few months ago, but it is still a great option for anyone look to write stories, whether spicy or otherwise. It is censored, but it shouldn’t be too much of an issue as long as you are careful with your wording. It’s a great free app!

It could be good

This used to be really good, but the new update kinda ruined it. They placed a bug fix, which fixed some things, but there are still on going issues. The AI’s suggestions are repetitive, place romance between characters that shouldn’t be there, has a really flat tone, and completely ignores the tones that the user picks when creating the story. I had sent two emails, a week apart, and usually I would get an acknowledgment email back, but it has been radio silence. I hope they fix this and it goes back to how it was, because it used to be so good.

Well

This app has possibility, I suppose. But when you try to guide it, it won’t go in that direction. I do not know how many times I’ve tried every conceivable description, and it either chugs along its prior directions or goes wildly into a different tangent. I know I am being critical of a currently FREE app, but people put time into using it only to find it doesn’t do the parts it is built for.

Hi Captain Zam, your feedback is appreciated. I'm curious to understand when you mention 'regenerate everything' as you should be able to use the scroll arrows just under the generated text to go back and forth between the generated options - so nothing should be lost until you select the option you are going with by having that on the screen when you either continue with writing yourself or letting Pirr create again. Please reach out to us at support@pirr.me if you are happy to discuss this more.

Used to be so good

The newest update basically makes the app completely unusable. The typewriter effect is terrible and no longer follows the story at all. Half the time it’s inserting characters or events that aren’t even in my story at all. Also, I know this is an erotic writing app but it adds eroticism between characters that it definitely shouldn’t be. I know it’s a free app but been going down hill ever since they got rid of the paragraphs. Very disappointed.

HI there, thank you for taking the time to update your review. We are experiencing a number of bugs just now, that we are working on and will hopefully have resolved very soon. We hope you are able to have a smooth Pirr experience very soon.

Doesn’t work

Stuck on stage 4. Allow or don’t allow doesn’t work. Deleting and re installing doesn’t help

Not consistent

It started off working well but now it just stops working when you’re halfway into the story. It’s an app breaking experience. I wouldn’t recommend this app in its current state. I’ve emailed support and never get any response. Avoid this one to save yourself from the frustration.
