Can’t tune E string on bass

Usually works well and it’s one of very few free tuners which is wild (appreciate that it has like every string instrument available) but when I tune my bass every time I get within 10hz of the correct pitch for my lowest string it jumps up and octave. It’s like it’s hiding the correct E from me and very annoying because it makes it impossible to know when it’s correct
