About

Before phones, there was pad paper. Two corners of a page. A few soldiers drawn in each. One ballpen, and a rule everybody knew: hold the pen upright, press, and flick. Wherever the line ended, that was your soldier now. Cross an enemy's line over him and he was gone. Reach the other corner and you won. The whole class knew this game, and nobody remembers who taught it to them. Pitikan is that game, kept exactly the way it felt. THE FLICK Hold to build pressure. Pull back like a slingshot. Let go. A quick flick is short and true. A long, hard one goes far but bends and scatters, the way a real pen skids across the desk. Every line stays on the page, and every line you draw is a wall your enemy cannot cross. THE RULES YOU REMEMBER One flick per turn. A soldier caught in the open goes down with an X over him, and you pick who steps out next. Win by reaching the enemy corner or by taking every soldier they have. When the enemy gets close, your whole base wakes up and any soldier can take the shot. THE THINGS WE ADDED IN SECRET Every player gets a landmine, a sniper and a roll of barbed wire to hide on the page. Your opponent can't see them. A line that crosses a mine stops right there. A soldier who lands near a sniper doesn't get up. A line that runs into wire pulls up short, and the wire stays as a wall. Place them well and the corner defends itself. YOUR PEN, YOUR PAPER, YOUR ARMY Write in ballpoint, gel, pencil, felt-tip, fountain or crayon, in seven colours; the other player sees your pen on the page. Play on pad paper, the school yellow pad, graph, a notebook page, a torn sheet or kraft. Send out soldiers, stick figures, paper planes, ninjas, tanks or jeepneys, every one drawn by hand. The pencil is yours after your first online win. The rest come in three small packs, and everything we add to a pack later is free to the people who have it. PLAY ANYONE Play the Bot any time, no signal needed. Or play online: find a stranger, or send a friend a six-letter code and pass turns back and forth all day. You get a nudge when it's your move. KEEP SCORE Every online game counts. See your record, your streak, and where you stand among everyone else still playing the recess game. Ruled paper. A red margin line. The scratch of a dry ballpoint. Same game, no detention.
