About
PlaceMesh turns iPhone and iPad into a local spatial capture, mesh preview, USDZ placement, and design-review workspace. It helps you capture AR surface points, preview reconstructed meshes, place 3D assets in physical context, measure local origin relationships, export share-ready files, and pair with PlaceMesh Viewer on Apple Vision Pro for immersive review.
Use PlaceMesh when you need to document a room-scale surface, communicate a design idea, check an imported USDZ asset in the real environment, prepare a local mesh package for review, or explain spatial relationships that are difficult to show with photos alone. The workflow is built for users who want control: capture is started by the user, file import and export are explicit actions, and nearby-device transfer is peer-to-peer between user-controlled devices.
The app supports AR point collection, continuous capture, mesh overlay preview, capture-box guidance, skeleton-guided body-region capture assistance, QR-based shared-coordinate alignment, USDZ import, physical-scale lock, local origin markers, distance rulers, selection boxes, file staging, ZIP packaging, and export to PLY, OBJ, USD, CSV, and JSON. Imported USDZ assets are preserved at their authored file scale. PlaceMesh does not automatically normalize, recenter, or resize loaded USDZ geometry to fit the capture box, so origin, scale, placement, and measurement relationships remain clear.
PlaceMesh is useful for design review, spatial documentation, education, research demonstrations, early prototyping, art-installation planning, workshop layout review, object placement studies, XR content preparation, field notes, and communication between people who need to discuss real-world geometry. Designers can capture a surface and place a proposed object. Teachers can demonstrate coordinate systems. Researchers can prepare a documented mesh package for inspection. Developers can check how a USDZ behaves in context before using it in a larger workflow.
When paired with PlaceMesh Viewer on Apple Vision Pro, PlaceMesh can move review from a handheld screen into an immersive space. Capture or prepare the scene on iPhone or iPad, then transfer supported mesh, point, asset, and metadata packages locally for spatial inspection in visionOS. This helps reviewers understand proportions, alignment, origin placement, object scale, and design intent when a flat screenshot or standard 3D preview does not communicate enough context.
PlaceMesh also includes practical export and sharing tools. You can stage captured and imported content, create ZIP packages, export geometry and metadata, and move files through standard user-controlled sharing paths. The goal is to make spatial work easier to document, compare, archive, and discuss without forcing a cloud-based workflow.
Privacy and user control are central to PlaceMesh. The app uses device sensors, local files, and nearby connectivity only to provide capture, visualization, import, export, alignment, and local transfer features. PlaceMesh does not create a cloud account, does not require a remote server for normal capture, and does not sell personal data. You choose what to capture, import, export, and share. System permissions may be requested for camera, AR/world sensing, local network discovery, peer transfer, and file access when used.
PlaceMesh is intended for visualization, education, research, design review, spatial documentation, and prototyping. It is not a medical, diagnostic, treatment, emergency, safety-certification, construction-tolerance certification, manufacturing-certification, or legal measurement tool. Skeleton guidance is only a visual capture aid and is not a medical analysis feature. Measurements, mesh previews, exported files, QR alignment, body-region guidance, and USDZ placement should always be independently verified before they are used for clinical, engineering, construction, manufacturing, safety, legal, financial, or other high-stakes decisions.
