What's New in PlanARoute

6.8.8

March 20, 2023

Replaced the Email Route menu option with Export Route menu option. Upon selecting the Export Route menu option, the user will be presented with a choice of three methods of exporting a route to another app or device. Email format will generate an email consisting of a print out of all the locations in the route, as well as a TXT attachment which can be used to import the route into this app on other devices. GPX format consists of the Latitude and Longitude (GPS) data of the route, which can be exported to apps that can read GPX data on this device or other devices. KML format consists of the Latitude and Longitude (GPS) data of the route, which can be exported to apps that can read KML data on this device or other devices.

5 Star well deserved

Best multipoint route planner out there I’m a delivery driver and used this app every day. Itis so easy too once you know your way around it.
You do not have to key in whole address cause it gives you options you can choose and waste no time. This is not a navigation app that is why it gives you google and Apple Maps options which is great. It does this automatically opening the map you choose no need to copy and paste. I drive commercial and sometimes have 2/3 maps opened same time using this app. If do delivery with multiple stop you need this app, like right now.

Exactly what I have been looking for

This app is great, it allows me to easily put pins down and map out a route twisting and winding throughout neighborhoods. It even gives elevation and speed estimates, even though I’ve been having issues with that. It’s a little clunky and definitely lacking from a user experience standpoint, but I’m willing to deal with that because it generally does what it is set out to do. You can leave little notes in your pins, and set it to route out from walking, biking, or driving which is a huge plus for me. Plus I love how you can use Mapquest over google maps. Bottom line is if you are looking to plan a route for whatever reason (mine was to plan a sight-seeing tour), then this app is better than anything out there that I could find. And I tried everything from google earth to free apps, none came close to the functionality of this one. Takes a little getting used to and it’s a little quirky, but for local route planning it’s well worth the price.

Useful route planner

I dropped the rating from 4 stars to 1 star.

It was frustrating enough that this app had no iCloud sync, despite having multiple device support. But I discovered all my saved routes had disappeared, and the developer told me the only solution was to to restore my entire device from a saved backup. Ridiculous.

Automatic backups are a must for any app like this where one spends hours crafting a file.

The tools and services to do so are available (iCloud, Dropbox, etc). The lack of inclusion of a backup feature is therefore a developer choice.

Others should be aware of all of this before committing to a purchase, or investing their time in creating detailed routes.

Original review:

Great app to plan out a car or bicycle trip, since it has the option to use MapQuest maps for bike directions. The elevation slider is handy for the latter.

Useful information right on the map and pins: saved location names, distances and total cumulative distance.

Locations are saved with the saved map/route. Useful for exploring multiple trips. Pins can be added and excluded from the route, to be used as reference points.

The lack of iCloud sync knocks off a star. Importing maps via email is less than ideal. I'd like to see Google Maps data be made available too.

The icon and interface is a bit lacking, but the functionality is there, which is the ultimate factor. The developer is also responsive and open to feature requests.

Electric Car Necessity!!

I have been seeking an app that will allow me to plan a detailed route but document miles and estimate time to optimize range on my 2012 Nissan Leaf. This will do the trick!
I don't want the standard "fastest or shortest" option. Freeway speeds drain range. But I also can't afford to go further than needed.
With the point to point I can see the big picture of the area and select the route that will work best for the trip. Can't get to the destination and then find you don't have enough juice to get home!!

Only missing voice directions

Great app. I use it to plan motorcycle trips. It would be better if it had turn-by-turn voice directions so you don't have to keep diverting your attention from the road to the map.
