No Plant Identification

As far as I can tell the app cannot identify your plants. You have to know what plant you have for anything to be helpful.

Response from developer

Hi mdtolic, thank you for the review and suggestion. Plant identification is a big topic that we, as a small indie team, intentionally avoided. We found that most users of PlantPal know what they have, or can use other free apps to identify their plants. You can even get very accurate results from the Photos app, just by swiping up ;) We hope you’ll enjoy PlantPal as a DIY care companion. We will keep your suggestion in mind, and if resources permit in the future, venture into this field.

Beautiful and easy to use!

Really clean and thoughtfully designed app. The UI is simple but polished, and it’s very easy to start tracking plants without any friction.

I especially like how visual it feels — it makes managing plants more enjoyable instead of feeling like a chore.

Excited to keep using it and see how it evolves!

Trouble with app

I have had this app for two years and now it is not working despite trying to update it. When I open it there’s a black screen. I do not want to lose all my data and photos of the plants and I’m having trouble finding help to resolve this issue.

Response from developer

Hi JoJo, thank you again for letting us know. We have just worked with Apple engineers and shipped a fix for the problem. We’d love you to give it a shot. Cheers!

Best plant care app!

I used to use Planta but got sick of being given ads for their products or their premium features (worse yet, being told “your plant looks unhealthy and needs Dr. Planta!”) I tried many apps and this is by far my favorite! I love the clean, simple interface and it has all the features I was looking for and none of the distractions. My favorite part is the widget I can put on the Home Screen so I never forget about my tasks for the day. I’ve also provided feedback to the developer about future features I’d like to see included and they were very courteous. I paid a one time fee for lifetime premium which I was happy to do. I’m a convert!

Green Thumb Fun!

I enjoy this app with its fluid UX and beautiful UI. I’m so glad the app has been (quickly) updated for iOS/iPadOS 26; multi-window support is great!

And, full iCloud sync functionality has now been implemented… it just keeps getting better!

Pocos datos

El buscador de plantas tiene muy pocos tipos añadidos

Nothing found no matter what i type in

Response from developer

Hi tjinsc, Thank you for writing in. We recently update the plant library to include 508 plants (up from 145) from around the world, and made the search much more functional. We’d love to have you give PlantPal another try. And as always, you can always add and manage your plants even if they don’t exist in the library. Hope this helps and thank you again for taking the time to write in.

A suggestion

Overall, it’s quite easy to use. I make a suggestion and hope to add the function of custom tasks. Some flowers need some special tasks, such as gardenia flowers need to be watered with ferrous sulfate regularly.

Response from developer

Hi YoursUser, thank you for taking the time for a review. We actually just updated the app to allow custom tasks — you can have multiple tasks of the same type, customize their names, and even add notes. We think you’ll like it! Please let us know if you’d like to see more features in PlantPal. Feedback like this helps us build a better app. Cheers!

Love this one!

I’ve been using this app for my plants since the end of January, and it has quickly become my favorite! I love that I can set up custom schedules for each plant, and adding my old photos for tracking was super easy—you can upload multiple at once.

The app is simple, clean, and focused on tracking without any unnecessary extras. The layout is great too!

One thing I’d suggest is adding an option to view all locations on one page you can scroll through. Right now, when I assign plants to a location, the list jumps away, which makes it harder to see everything at once. I personally use locations to group plants with different light requirements, but I’d still like a “my plants” style view where everything is shown together, just grouped by location.

Overall, I definitely recommend this app if you’re looking for an easy, no-frills plant tracker!

Update (August 24, 2025): This is still my favorite—I use it every day and love it. 🌱❤️

Doesn’t work since upgrade in 2023

I USED to love this app as it kept my plants “grouped” and I can add photos as my plants grow and matured. However, ever since the <update>, the app CRASH closes the moment I try to open it.
The developer was responsive at first (2023) but the issue has not been resolved. My email to him in Jan 2025 has not been answered.

Love this one!

I purchased and have been using this app for my plants since the end of January and so far it's been my favorite! I can set up my own schedules for plants.

I was able to add all my old photos for tracking. Which was easy as you can add multiple photos at one time.

This app is the best for tracking without a bunch of extra fluff. I love the layout too!

I would suggest making it where you can see all the locations on one page to scroll through. Or I wish they wouldn't leave the main list when I add them to a location.

(I was using my locations to group together plants without similar lighting requirements, but still would like to see all the plants on one page like the "my plants" section, but then grouped.)

I would recommend trying this app!

Awesome App

This app is awesome. The UI is beautifully simple and I love how it looks right now. I can add plants and have their watering schedules for free. I really love how the app looks so I am paying the extra 99 cents a month (very reasonable price) for the other features such as fertilizer schedules and so on. This app is literally exactly what I would create as a software engineer and envision as a plabt tracker logging app so I am glad it is already on the app store.

One thing I would add to make the app better is if it could sync between my iphone and ipad… as of right now it does not :(

Hi there, thank you for the kind words and I’m glad you enjoy PlantPal as much as we do! Regarding cloud sync — yes the app does sync via iCloud, and it’s on by default as long as you enable iCloud on both devices and have signed into the same iCloud account. Would you be able to shoot us an email at hi@plantpal.net so that we can help further? You can include a screenshot of the iCloud sync status that you can find in the App’s Preferences tab.

Good start. Needs a lot more plants

Got this to track my veggie and herb garden. Love the photo idea. More plans need to be added though. No tomatoes? Or any other veggie/fruits? Please expand soon.

Also, “sites” don’t seem to be working correctly. I have tried to set them up but can’t find how to add plants there.

Response from developer

Hi Adesinacat79, thank you for the leaving the review and for the suggestion. We recently rolled out an AI-assisted plant library with 500+ plants (including popular veggies, fruits and flowers around the world). Hope this can be a step-up for your gardening journey! As always, please keep the suggestions coming — ideas from users like you help us improve PlantPal all the time.

I’ve tried many plant care apps and most fall short. There are plenty out there that use faulty algorithms to determine watering frequency. There are just too many variables for these apps to get it right and I think those algorithms are worse than useless, hindering your ability to learn when watering is actually needed, and likely will lead to significant overwatering. Instead, this app does a great job of cataloging your collection and keeping track of ad-hoc and recurring tasks. You set the frequency but you can also look back and see your frequency averages, helping you to adjust care schedules as needed. A couple things I would love to see: 1) plant count. Would be fun to see this number rather than needing to manually count. 2) search feature for searching your own plants. If you have large collections and move plants around, sometimes it can take a lot of scrolling to find the plant in your collection you are looking for. 3) expanded plant library. The current library is somewhat limited.

Hi Beckela, thank you for the kind words and glad you love PlantPal! As a daytime data scientist, I personally know it’s impossible to predict when my plants need water—there are just so many factors to take in. That’s exactly why I built the app. I’ve taken notes on your suggestions. Thank you and happy planting!
