What's New in PlatePal

1.1

August 25, 2026

Our biggest update since launch, and most of it is about getting more scans answered! A MUCH BIGGER INGREDIENT DATABASE We grew the ingredient database by 4x for concern-mapped entries, so far fewer scans come back as Insufficient Data. BETTER LABEL READING Ingredient lists that end in an FDA disclaimer, a factory address, or a nutrition panel could confuse the parser and drop real ingredients. Those labels now read correctly. Natural flavors no longer count against a product on their own at Moderate strictness, while Strict still flags them. WHY THIS VERDICT A new sheet on any result shows which ingredient drove the verdict, which of your requirements it affected, and how sure we are. WHEN A LOOKUP FAILS, WE SAY SO A network problem no longer looks like "product not found". Lookups now retry on their own, and you get a real Retry button instead of a dead end. Alternatives no longer claims a category is empty when the search itself failed. ADD A MISSING BARCODE (fixed) Snapped a label that had no barcode? You can attach the barcode later, and the product keeps its name, photo, history, and saved status. FASTER SEARCH Search loads the whole list in one pass instead of one request per row, so results stop stalling. SMOOTHER TO USE Swipe sheets away, pinch to zoom a product photo, and enjoy new animation throughout the app. If you prefer the old feel, turn it off in Settings, Experimental. A NEW START Setup now asks what you actually need help with, adds household members in one step, and shows you a real product verdict before asking anything else. No product handy? Try a sample. VOTE ON WHAT IS NEXT Settings, Roadmap lets you vote on the features we build next. FIXES Signing in on a second device could overwrite the allergen and diet choices already saved to your account. Fixed. Clear all data now clears household members and every stored preference. Performance and battery related bug fixes and improvements. Rate PlatePal in Settings, About was a dead button. Fixed.
