PlugWatt is the offline field toolkit for EV charging technicians: the people who commission, maintain, and troubleshoot Level 2 stations and DC fast chargers at public networks, fleet depots, and highway corridors. Every charger is a two sided communication node. It talks down to the car over the J1772 control pilot and the CCS or NACS handshake, and up to its network backend over OCPP. Almost every field failure is one of three things: a power electronics fault, a vehicle handshake failure, or a backend problem. MANUFACTURER FAULT CODES The brand library now carries the codes the charger actually puts on its screen, each with what it means and then an ordered list of what to check, most likely cause first. Thirteen ABB Terra AC codes and three Tritium codes to start. Some of them carry the manufacturer's own hard numbers rather than a general description. Tritium 39 gives the exact supply window, below 432 volts or above 528, below 55 hertz or above 65, and names an internal RCD trip and an internal breaker trip as causes, so the checklist starts inside the unit rather than sending you to the utility. Tritium 353 locks the charger deliberately when the connector is pulled during a session, and Tritium says specifically not to power cycle it or press the emergency stop. That is the first line rather than something buried at the bottom, because it is the opposite of what instinct tells you to do. ABB 0x0102 is DC residual current at 6 milliamps. Trying a different vehicle comes first, since a failing on board charger is a common source and the charger may be reporting exactly right. Six codes are flagged safety critical and open with an isolate first banner: both residual current codes, the monitor self test failure, the stuck relay, missing earth, and reversed line and neutral. Brands that do not publish codes keep their field notes and fault family links rather than getting invented ones.
