Think twice
My experience with Plus500 has taught me an expensive lesson.
Around two years ago I opened a Tesla position equivalent to about 3.5 shares at ~$176 each. Tesla subsequently rose to around $369 per share.
However, over the period I held the position, approximately £450 was deducted in charges.
I accept that this was a CFD, rather than direct ownership of Tesla shares. My concern is the extent to which the ongoing financing charges accumulated while I held what I regarded as a long-term investment.
I have raised this with Plus500. To date, they have not offered any refund or compensation; their response has essentially been that the position was a CFD and therefore the charges applied.
That may be contractually correct, but my experience highlights something I think potential customers need to understand very clearly: a CFD is not the same as owning the underlying shares, and holding one for years can result in substantial ongoing charges.
If you’re investing for 5–10 years, read and understand the financing charges before using Plus500 CFDs.
I personally wouldn’t use a CFD for a long-term investment again. I’m sharing my experience so others can make an informed decision before putting their money in.

CFDs are leveraged financial instruments engineered primarily for short-to-medium-term trading rather than multi-year buy-and-hold investments. Because overnight funding rates apply to maintain leveraged positions past daily market closes, holding a position over long periods will incur cumulative charges. All fee structures, overnight funding rates, and instrument conditions are fully transparent and visible within the platform prior to opening any position. While we appreciate you highlighting the fundamental distinctions between CFDs and traditional stock ownership, our pricing terms are explicitly communicated at all times to ensure traders can manage their positions effectively. If you would like a detailed breakdown of your account statements or overnight funding calculations, please contact me directly at eugene.g@plus500.com.

The customer service is extremely disappointing, and getting clear and helpful answers when you have an issue feels unnecessarily difficult. The account verification and review process has also been stressful and, in my opinion, far too complicated.
What I find most frustrating is the lack of transparency and the feeling that the customer is not being properly supported when problems arise. When you are dealing with your own money, you expect a financial platform to provide clear communication, reliable support, and a straightforward experience.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend Plus500 to anyone looking for a platform where they feel properly supported and valued as a customer.
Very disappointing experience. I expected much better from a company of this size.
