A nice little ambient noise generator from the great Andrew Plotkin
No ads! No ai! No crypto! No tracking! No upsell to a premium subscription! Just randomized nature and rain sounds, for free. If I have a complaint it’s that I often do feel aware of the artifice of it – that I am hearing sound files from different locations fade in and out rather than a wholly organic soundscape. Still, I enjoy chilling out to this and find myself using it often.

A perfect storm in your pocket
Pocket Storm might be one of the most used apps on my phone. A brilliant piece of programming for that “every-thundercrash-is-different” field recording gap in your life, with each instance its own perfect storm.
Unbeatable!!!
I’ve tried so many ambient sound apps, but this one is the absolute best for storm sounds! It doesn’t loop so I don’t get bored with it or annoyed by it. I have chronic pain and anxiety, and this has become my daily go to relaxation tool! To the creators and developers, thank you for all the time and effort that you gave to this project! I truly appreciate all your hard work!

Pocket Storm
This is the best app on my iPod touch.
It really helps me to calm down if i am stressed out a lot.
And I found it barely uses any power at all.

Good idea. I just wish the rain actually sounded like rain. Love the idea of a developing storm, but the stock audio used to generate the "storms" are abysmally bad. Naturespace's thunderstorm recording "sheltered" is light years better in sound quality.
Love this soundscape!
I really like how this slowly builds a very natural, full-throated storm, in a non-repetitive or 'predictable' way. I use it to sleep in distracting sound environments, and my wife uses it to focus on writing.
One Star Because Zero Is Not An Option
I was so excited to purchase this today - but now I am so disappointed! What could have been an amazing rain/storm experience, has been totally spoiled by loud insect/frog noises, and badly simulated wind. It's difficult to listen to and relax, and I had to shut it off. I found it stressful and unrealistic. I have never experienced a storm where the crickets are louder than the thunder! I greatly regret parting with my money - especially when there are so many apps out there that profess to doing a similar thing. Perhaps a version without the fake wind and nerve-wracking creature noises? Until that is an option, do not waste your money, as I did. :|

Kill the crickets! Fire the frogs!
This app would be perfect if it had an option to turn off the sound of those darned crickets! And frogs! Sometimes you're just drifting off to sleep when a sudden chirrup will jolt you awake. Or a croak! I mean, I'm all for ecological diversity, but this is ridiculous.

I've several other ambient, white-noise generators and this by far one of the best that I've used. The interface was VERY simple and say to use.
Some of the ambient "animal noises" (frogs, crickets, etc...) were a little loud at certain points. Didn't bother me enough to deduct a star...

Excellent App!
I have had this app for a couple of weeks now and I think it is a great concept and it works flawlessly on my iphone. It doesn't just play a prerecorded soundtrack, but rather dynamically mixes various sounds to create a unique thunderstorm each time. The creature sounds (crickets, frogs) that you hear during the "calm" cycle are also terrific. I highly recommend this app if you are looking for a one-of-a-kind ambient sound experience. My highest compliments to the author.

Typical Zarfiness…
…which is to say, interface-wise, a fiendish mix of the cheerfully whimsical and the subtly clever, in this case topped off with a dollop of the surprisingly useful.
I fell asleep to this for the first time last night, and awoke feeling perky and refreshed. Coincidence? I think not.
You wouldn’t think that a dynamically-generated soundscape would have a mental effect all that different from a well-recorded static one, and yet it does. It’s the acoustic equivalent of playing with a kaleidoscope, versus sitting in the theater and watching an IMAX movie of someone else playing with a kaleidoscope.
All kidding aside, I think Zarf’s approach is the future of ambient-sound apps.

A wonderful white noise generator
This app presents a wonderfully simple interface to make just the right amount of non repeating noise for falling asleep to or drowning out office distractions. A great addition to my day.

I have purchased a number of relaxing-audio apps - white noise generators, zen gardens, procedural music players - but none of them have been as satisfying or as simply relaxing as Pocket Storm.
(I was lucky enough to beta-test it, and I have to admit I fell asleep on the job a few times.)
The interface is simple - a futuristic sort of old-time radio that controls the weather, with a play button, a duration slider, and a few other ephemera. The app is not one to look at for long - but that's not really the point, anyway. You want to listen to a thunderstorm, and it delivers mightily.
All in all, the best sort of app: simple, focused, and utterly delightful.

A Thunderstorm in Your Pocket
I've been beta-testing this, and, what can I say other than: I won't go to sleep without it. The app provides a number of useful options to adjust how the thunderstorm progresses. You can vary the speed at which the storm crests and abates, and you can have it play forever, or stop after a certain number of minutes, or – my favorite mode when using it at bedtime – have it stop playing when the storm is over.
It's a beautiful little app that does only one thing, and does it exceedingly well. If the idea of having a wonderful, never-ending thunderstorm to listen to whenever you want appeals to you, you need this in your life.
