A classic is back!

One of the originals to use this battle mechanic. Welcome back. You should absolutely play this.

Hoping for an update before iOS 11

The developer has paid his dues and kept the game around, it looks and plays great still after so many years!
One can hope for an update ๐Ÿ™‚

Casual RPG poker, just what the doctor ordered.

I truly enjoyed Puzzle Quest 1 & 2, yet I've struggled to find something as good as those two until now. This game is very relaxed yet forces you to think ahead, take gambles on dealt cards, pay attention to the deck, and do a little old fashioned RPG grinding if you so choose. Think about that classic game that's "easy to learn, but hard to master" and you'll truly understand how good this game is. Perfect for a casual gamer like myself.

Unbalanced

I like the games mechanics and story, but as soon as timers are included, the game is virtually unplayable.

While I already have issues with timers due to my disabilities, these are worse than any Iโ€™ve ever seen. Normally I can get about 80% of the way through something before a timer runs out, but here Iโ€™m only getting 5-10%. Thatโ€™s just ludicrous. I can see why other players are complaining that the timers just arenโ€™t realistic.

This game needs some serious play-testing and major adjustments in the next release. Maybe just doing away with the timers all together.

I really wanted this game to be better. I really enjoyed my first ten minutes with it.

good at first...

This started off well: making poker hands to beat enemies as a time killer. Problems with implementation quickly surfaced, however. The game started repeatedly bugging me to review it during level 1. What are the odds that I would have a feeling for the full game that early? The game does allow replay of levels, but the dialogue doesn't change, so the characters appear to have a bad case of amnesia. I found no way to zoom out on the map, which resulted in some time wasted wandering around. Some of the midgame timed puzzles are unrealistic without paying for powerups. If you're OK with paying for these, or with just playing the first few levels repeatedly to kill some time, go ahead and try this; otherwise you may wish to look elsewhere.

This game is virtually unplayable

Here we have a supposedly clever game, from Brazil, which bills itself as 'the first RPPG' - role playing poker game. I love this kind of thing; I was lethally addicted to Puzzle Quest, where the match 3 genre was forever immortalized by the brilliant gameplay and majestic storyline. The biggest difference between Poker Knight and that stunning entry is quite simple: Puzzle Quest was actually PLAYABLE.

This game, on the other hand, starts out encouragingly enough, what with the cute story and engaging poker hand gameplay. It soon becomes strikingly clear however that you can't advance very far - I'm talking about the third or fourth 'level, of which there are nine - without having to spend real $ on chips, so you can buy potions that restore your health and also buy re-charges for the powers you get from collecting the all-important amulets. I tried playing without shelling out as long as I could, and then I finally invested $4.99 for 10,000 in chips. That got me a little farther along, only to be faced with the Queen character on the fourth level, who has the power to freeze the cards, rendering them unusable unless you have the explode amulet, which I did, with 5 recharges - the max - and I didn't even put a dent in her 2500 life points (as opposed to my measly 212 or whatever). In the process, I used up all my $ buying health recharges, until I was nearly out of chips, with nearly all the cards frozen and nothing to do but slink off with my tail between my legs.

As others have stated, the game is seriously flawed and horrendously imbalanced, in ways far too numerous to go into here and in addition to what I described above. Didn't anyone at Instant Technologies test the sucker before releasing it last December to an unsuspecting iPad public? It certainly does not seem like it, or they just didn't care. Whatever the case, it's been reluctantly and sadly uninstalled. It was fun while it lasted.

Unique

It's been a great app so far - I am curious to see how it plays out. Great thematic elements, and interesting gameplay. I don't like the storyline, however. It is a bit contrived.

Unique Poker RPG!

The mechanics of the game is great and don't understand the frustration of the other reviewers. The Spirits can be difficult but once you get the hang of using your amulets, they become easy. After the first map, I think I beat all the spirits on the first try. This game is great time waster!

Great Puzzle/Strategy Card Game

Reminded me a lot of Sword and Poker when I first started playing it, but after getting a few of the amulets and getting more and more options for each battle, it's an entirely different feel. I only wish that there was a mini-Map on the levels, finding all paths for 100% completion on later stages is an exercise in frustration.

Great game!

Until you realize that the amulets are the key to the game, it's incredibly challenging and frustrating. But after you make that mental leap? Great gameplay propelled by a decent RPG mechanic. Highly recommended.

Unbalanced, Frustrating, Waste of Time

The concept is really interesting, but a serious game ballance issue is piling on the frustration levels and ends up being a waste of time. If only refunds were allowed i would request a refund.
the issues:
starting the 3rd map, the 'air spirits' becomes almost impossible to beat with a 90sec timer. really we're supposed to get straights and flushes while knocking down 500 points in 90secs... the next map is the same with a flush spirit.... nice idea... terrible execution... the spirits blocks some areas of the maps so its basically makes a portion of the maps useless.
with all the chips earned, there is nothing to buy, no stores, no weapons bonus, armors, time stopage etc.... nothing. all you can buy are more 'turns' on the amulets you have collected... wastes of time.

there are alot of other game play quirks that makes it very frustration for players who paid for the full version and were dissappointed shortly into the game.
i wished they made another version of Sword & Poker 2, its 100x better than this .

Fun, but needs more.

Needs side quests, bonus items, and more incentive to 5-star all of the stages. DESPERATELY needs iCloud saves! I won't play on my iPad currently because I don't want to start over.

Interesting game

Interesting but repetitive. Look forward to a next release with hopefully broader content. Fun game though.

Great game

A really good game. Good mix of both rpg and a poker type game. For those having trouble with the poker spirits that's what the amulets are for. And yes luck is a factor just as it is in a real poker game. All in all a nice diversion. As far as the "grinding" goes yes you have to play the levels multiple time to get a 5 star ranking but you also get a nice reward for every star you earn.

Innovative but repetitive

I love trying new types of games, specially anything that can offer something new in the tired RPG genre, and this game delivers. The poker based combat system works better than it has any right to.

But it only has the combat system going on for it; the world and maps are bare and spartan in their simplicity. Almost no room to explore. The story while not bad uses "LOL" as a word. The worst thing, though is the poker spirits you have to beat once in a while. You can only hurt them with one specific type of poker hand, and even the first two like two pairs or three of a kind take many tries before you can beat them. You have to be lucky with your cards several times in a row, and quickly because you only have a minute and a half to beat them. I have no idea how I am supposed to beat the spirit of royal flush when I can't beat the spirit of straights yet.

Still, the game is worth a try and I hope they change the way the spirits work because they are insanely hard.

Has a lot of potential but needs polishing

There are some decent strategy and luck elements that make the game interesting. However the levels are boring and should be shorter and better designed. Also adding in weapons and armor to chests rather than just leveling up would make it a lot better. If you're having a hard time just level up some on the early levels. Now on the final levels most monsters die in 2-3 rounds and I never get any damage except on boss battles. If they make a sequel taking in some of this feedback it could be another swords and poker style great poker rpg!

Requires too much level grinding

Could be a great game, but it is not. The boss battles are very difficult requiring luck to win and if you fail you cannot abandon and restart. This means you have to start over and otherwise grind through previously played easy and boring battles to get back. Also when you die you lose all the potions you used on the boss battle, these are expensive and difficult to obtain. So, not only do you have to level grind but, by losing the potions it can make the grinding fruitless. It is very aggravating to what could otherwise be a really great game. But they have clearly geared it for IAPs. Again, I will reiterate this is fun otherwise, but I am done with it till they fix it.

Pokerish

This is really a card puzzle game that uses some poker mechanics. You don't "play poker" in any meaningful sense, as there is no betting. As the game progresses you unlock 'amulets' that let you manipulate the deck (e.g. draw more cards, remove cards from the 'board', etc.), and you get bonuses for using those to win battles quickly and with higher-ranked hands.

Fun so far, though a little repetitive. Dialogue manages not to be terrible.

The bonus battles against the 'spirits' feel too random - e.g. making only flushes is just a matter of what you get dealt. Maybe a better mechanic would be that you have to make hands at *or above* a certain rank. These would also be more fun IMO if you had a fixed number of turns (10? 15?) rather than a time limit...

Well produced, but shallow gameplay.

The game mechanic feels like pure luck. There's not much to hold your interest beyond the initial few battles. I'm hoping that they add more itemization or make leveling your character mean something. There's potential here, but this likely wont be on my device for long.

Please add iPhone 5 screen support, overall great game!
