I was surprised to see that I am required to select an ethnicity when creating a listing. I do not understand why my ethnicity or age is relevant to selling a household item, and there does not appear to be an option to skip these questions or choose “Prefer not to say.”
I was also concerned by the ethnicity categories provided. The list includes broad categories such as “African,” “Asian,” and “Hispanic,” but does not include options such as Black, Black British, Afro-Caribbean, or Caribbean. As someone who does not identify with any of the options presented, I found the list exclusionary and inaccurate.
Additionally, the use of the term “Caucasian” feels outdated. It is a term that many organisations and researchers have moved away from because it is imprecise and based on historical racial classifications that are no longer widely considered appropriate.
If these categories are being used to generate AI images, I would encourage you to review both the necessity of collecting this information and the way these options are presented. At a minimum, users should be given a wider range of inclusive choices and the ability to opt out entirely.
I hope you will consider reviewing this part of the app, as it currently feels both unnecessary and poorly designed for users who simply wish to sell an item.

I'd like to offer a bit of clarification that I hope puts your mind at ease. The ethnicity and age fields you're referring to are part of the Virtual Model feature, which is designed to generate a realistic photo of your item displayed on a virtual model, on a hanger, as a flat lay, or on a mannequin. This feature is enabled by default to give sellers the best possible listing images, but it is entirely optional it can be toggled off at any time and is not required to create or publish a listing. There are also several non-human display options available (such as flat lay) if you'd prefer not to use a virtual model at all. That said, your feedback on the range of categories is well taken. I'll be reviewing the terminology used and expanding the list to better reflect the way people identify, including options such as Black British, Afro-Caribbean, and Caribbean. I'll do my best to submit an updated version within the next 7 days and will update this response once it's live.
