Prevent Marine Pollution

The Prevent project (IPA ADRION 419 – Pollution Reduction and Early-warning for Vulnerable Ecosystems in Adriatic-Ionian Territories - PREVENT funded by the Interreg VI-B Interreg IPA Adriatic Ionian Programme (IPA ADRION)) addresses the common challenge of marine pollution in the Adriatic-Ionian region. This challenge is exacerbated by climatic changes and poses a significant threat to the region's ecosystems, communities, and economies. The project aims to develop innovative tools and methods for early detection, prevention and management of marine litter, ultimately establishing a robust network of stakeholders and delivering. (https://prevent.interreg-ipa-adrion.eu/) The PREVENT app is developed by NCSR Demokritos within the IPA-Adrion PREVENT project to support real-time, in-situ monitoring of marine pollution across the Adriatic-Ionian region. Designed with citizen science at its core, the app enables tourists, locals, and volunteers to easily report pollution events directly from their smartphones. Whether it's beach litter, water pollution, or other environmental hazards, users can capture incidents in real time and contribute valuable data to a centralized system that supports environmental protection and policy planning. Key Features: • Take up to 3 photos per report (40 in total) • Tag each photo with pollution type categories • Add notes or use voice-to-text to describe what you see • Automatic GPS tagging for location accuracy • Device ID added for secure and traceable reports • Live map visualization via the PREVENT web dashboard • Multilingual support with automatic language detection • Intuitive, easy-to-use interface with built-in instructions The app connects directly to the PREVENT web server, sending structured data in real time. Each report includes images, category tags, notes, GPS location, and a timestamp, helping researchers and local authorities identify pollution hotspots and respond effectively.
