Keep it coming! This is the future

With the release of iPhone 18 pro (variable aperture) - iPhones + content creation will really push the market.

Please, please keep supporting this app.

Somehow beautifully different

It’s hard to put my finger on what this app does differently but it does something that brings something nice out in some scenarios. Taking the same photo on auto exposure in the native vs this app gives a slightly different result. Not sure if it’s how it picks the AE or the dynamic range but the way it exposes reminds me of when I used to shoot with a higher end camera.
Some suggestions:
- Extended iso/exposure controls eg up to 30s shutter/3200iso
- exposure memory, shot to shot unless reset (at least as an option)
-virtual dials rather than sliders (a bit like camera+
-focus control

One of my favourite things about this app is the temporary review.
Thanks protofo

Проблема с а10

After installing the update (C6) the flash began to work incorrectly there is no synchronization with the camera on the frames there are stripes of different exposure! Give the opportunity to download earlier versions flash firmware, before that everything worked fine!!! Iphone15promax

Pretty cool, a little cumbersome.

Profoto- if you’re listening, could you add a light meter feature to this and/or the connect app that triggers the connected flashes and reads from the iPhone? That would be great!

So I recently used this with my iPhone 15 Pro Max and a pair of B10’s. It’s going to be a lot of fun to continue to experiment with. But its overall usefulness might be a bit limited. Chancing the iPhone camera settings is a bit precarious because there are no guardrails. The iPhone appears to have a sync speed, but I can’t sort out what it is. It’s just not like using a real camera. I think if I use it at all, I’ll leave it all to manual. It does a flash pre-fire, and it’s a bit of a slow process. So you’ll need a very well trained model. Pets or kids are probably out of the question here.

Anyway, I’m still learning my way around so I won’t dog it too much. It’s fun to use your “big” lights with your phone. It makes me feel tempted to buy an A10 just to have a more portable light to play with this app more often.

Promising and very cool! Needs Some Tweaks

I picked up the Profoto A10 for my Sony A7iii with the idea of it being an added bonus that I could capture a few quick shots during weddings to AirDrop to the bride—something polished and instant for a sneak peek. The concept is solid, and I really appreciate how easy and seamless the connection is between the flash and the app. The usability overall is great.

That said, I feel like the app isn’t quite living up to its full potential. The Smart Mode needs refinement—it currently only offers three intensity sliders: super bright, a very standard “normal” that could’ve been taken with the native camera app, and then extremely dark. Some half-stop adjustments between those levels would make a huge difference in dialing in the perfect exposure.

I also wish the app offered more manual camera control. While I understand the native camera app will always have deeper integration, other third-party apps like ProCamera have shown that you can build in advanced settings like action modes or even digital aperture control. There’s definitely room to grow here.

And let’s talk about the 5x zoom—it’s overkill. I understand the choice to stick with native camera lenses over digital zoom to preserve image quality, but at 24mm 1x, distortion is a real issue unless you correct it in post. On the other hand, 5x zoom puts me so far away I feel like I need a day pass just to get the shot. A little more flexibility—or simply giving photographers the option to use digital zoom if they choose—would go a long way.

In short, it’s a strong foundation with a lot of potential, but some fine-tuning could make this app an essential tool for hybrid shooters.

Add more - 2x , please

Add more - 2x , please. Because app has 0,5x ; 1x ; 3x, but don’t 2x(((

Bad exposure.

I downloaded this app for an event I have coming up where you can’t bring in a DSLR so I was going to buy the profoto A2 so I could use this app and flash. after playing with the app for a while I discovered that the exposure you get does not look like what you see on the screen, which is very disappointing. It’s either over or under exposed then you try editing it and it looks like HDR not impressed. If anyone knows a workaround, please let me know. I really don’t want to spend $1000 on a flash if the app isn’t going to work like it says it is.

The app works, but no 48 megapixel

Currently the only option for an external smart phone flash, and it does the job. but I do hope that there are plans to at least add compatibility with shooting in 48 megapixel mode

No Manual

When it works it is brilliant (C1+ lights are seamless), but when it doesn’t (A10 & A2 Auto Exposure badly underexposed), it hard to figure out why. There is no basic manual or help files to describes all the icons eg “eye” and “A with circle” at bottom of screen. Fiddling with settings while still in Auto mode corrects under exposure - but how? Some features ( swipe up to increase exposure of background in contrast ) you come across by accident in the Chris Fain video.

Flash on the iPhone, superb. No 48mp RAW.

Great App, so much fun to use a wireless flash on the iPhone.

Although manual is better for consistent results and deliberate effects, the auto mode is so easy. If you know nothing about balancing lights or creating contré-jour effects just set to natural, balanced or dramatic. Push on the screen and slide up and down to make brighter or darker.

One thing that should be added is 48mp MX RAW. The 10-12mp isn’t good enough.

I cannot say thank you enough for keeping this app updated! You’re team is amazing for this!

iPhone 15 Pro max Support

Thank you for keeping this app alive! I use your products daily. From my travels around the world to the studio your app and your products are superb!

but:( no 48meg

Great app and I have all the lights, but the sad thing is I can not use the 48 megapixel feature. This makes the whole iPhone 14 max with this light a bit undervalued. In any case I hope the guys here at Profoto will see our pain and will help to deliver the product we all so desire.

No 48MP support!!??? Cmon!

I got this app specifically for the 48MP iphone 14. Totally disappointed to find out after purchasing a Profoto flash that 48MP is not supported . Profoto?? What’s going on? They are usually on point with the latest and greatest.

Response from developer

Hi Mynor Infraction, we're sorry to hear you're disappointed. Unfortunately iOS 16 is limiting us to support 48MP capture in the app. Let's hope this changes soon. Many thanks for your understanding, Yours, Profoto team.

So bad, so annoyed

I can’t even with this. It’s a great tease to say it works with an iPhone but nah. Why can’t I get the flash on manual below 1.0 ? Why is it so buggy? Why does it keep doing weird things? Have you guys tried watching users with the app and tried to see how useless this is? I’m so frustrated
