User reviews

Great idea and workflow but..

Doesn’t natively size to my iPad Gen 6 screen causing me to have to scroll to view the pads versus the mixer even though there is plenty of white space left on the screen for them both.
No native Core MIDI to use the sounds on iPad Korg Module nor any other of my sound sources.

Comprehensive app but can be unnecessarily complicated at times

Although the app seems to follow certain music theory conventions, I find it too restrictive when I want to mix my own chords with the generated suggestions. Why should I be forced to use only the “next” chords suggested by the app, instead of also having the option to simply tap a pad and enter my own chords, like in ChordPolyPad, without awkward workarounds? Right now, I have to generate suggested chords first, delete their notes, and then manually enter my own, which feels unnecessarily cumbersome.
It also does not make sense that the first pad is forced to be the key chord and that I cannot change its octave. I feel the piano roll scrolling needs improvement as well, because I often end up entering random notes while just trying to scroll across octaves. On top of that, the default sound patch is extremely loud and could really use a more reasonable level.

Unusable

App goes blank on screen every time I press one of the chord pads. Then reappears a few seconds later. Totally unusable. Can someone please help.

Nutzlos

Not working in ios18 - edit - now sorted

Crashes as soon as it launches as an audio unit. Tried on multiple iPads and iPhones. There appears to be no way to contact the developer. I hope this is sorted as the app was very good on ios17

Edit: all sorted - many thanks!

FAQ

What does the Progressions app do?

Progressions is an AUv3 MIDI plugin designed to generate unique chord progressions. It uses mathematical algorithms to create chords unrelated to traditional scales, offering a fresh approach to harmony. You can control the complexity and freedom of the generated chords to explore new musical territories.

What are the key features of Progressions?

Key features include generating unique chord progressions with adjustable complexity and freedom levels, multiple playback modes (block chords, arpeggiator, strummer), support for open and closed chords with various voicings, and a humanization section for timing and velocity. It also includes an integrated ARP and STRUM pattern editor and the ability to sync multiple instances.

How much does Progressions cost?

Based on the provided information, Progressions is a paid application. There are no mentions of free trials, subscriptions, or in-app purchases, indicating a one-time purchase model.

What devices and software is Progressions compatible with?

Progressions is an AUv3 MIDI plugin, meaning it is compatible with Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) that support the AUv3 format. It can also be loaded as an Instrument for DAWs that do not support MIDI plugins, such as GarageBand, and can utilize internal soundfonts or send MIDI to other instruments.

Who would benefit from using Progressions?

This app is ideal for musicians, composers, and producers who want to break away from predictable chord progressions and explore new harmonic ideas. It's particularly useful for those working in electronic music production or any genre where innovative harmonic textures are desired, and for users who want to quickly generate musical ideas within their DAW.
