The Gutenberg project is supposed to be free. This app is charging money. Don’t fall for it. Go to the Gutenberg.org project website and download for free to your hearts content. Happy reading!
Needs a variety
This app is great if you are a classic reader, I live that the books are free and easy to read but it does not have any books that are not considered classics. I am more of a murder mystery/fantasy reader so I was a little disappointed but overall 8/10
Don’t pay for premium
This app adds nothing that the official Gutenberg Project website provides for free.
“Limit of 1 book. UPGRADE TO PREMIUM”
Scummy app that limits you to 1 (yes, 1) book before forcing you to pay for “premium.” In other words, this app LOCKS YOU OUT of the gutenberg project library, instead of letting you access it.
It’s disgraceful that an app using a public repository of free public books is doing such a blatant greedy deceitful cash-in.
The app also has a predatory and contrived distinction between “read” (allowed) and “download” (NOT ALLOWED without “premium upgrade”), which lets you read offline, when the Gutenberg e-books are relatively tiny (< 1 MB oftentimes) and when there is no reason for the app not to download and make it available offline. Except that the app creator wants to scam people out of money.
I’ve used several good reading apps that were free and which didn’t involve absurd predatory locks/limits like that.
Get the app called Gutenberg Classic Literature. That’s the good and non-scammy version of this one.
