About
Your phone sits 30 to 35 centimetres from your eyes. To focus that close, a muscle inside each eye tightens. It stays tight as long as you look. Most days that is hours.
Ophthalmologists and optometrists recommend one habit for it: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Nobody remembers every 20 minutes. Protect Your Eyes does.
HOW IT WORKS
Pick the apps you lose evenings to. Switch protection on. After 20 minutes in them, a wall blocks them. Open Protect Your Eyes, look into the distance for 20 seconds, they open again. A notification takes you there in one tap.
BLOCK FOR A WHILE
Shut the same apps for a length you choose, or until you release them. A soft block opens after a five second wait. A hard block runs to the end.
SCHEDULES
Up to ten weekly windows, each with its own days and hours.
STREAK COUNTER
Rests today, days in a row, five badges. Two short articles on shortsightedness and laser eye surgery, kept to what the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the NHS and the WHO say.
WIDGET
A ring on your Home Screen counting down to the next rest. When one is due, it opens the app.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account. No subscription. The apps you pick never leave your phone: Apple's Screen Time hands the app opaque tokens, so even we cannot know which apps they are. Anonymous usage statistics only.
Protect Your Eyes uses Screen Time on your device. You can switch it off in Settings at any time: it is a speed bump, not a lock.
