Ganz OK, aber …

Ansich eine Super App, aber ein Feature fehlt, dass ich nicht nachvollziehen kann. Ich nutze einen Passwortmanager. Dieser wird mit Biometrie entsperrt. Um die sicherheit zu erhöhen habe ich für einige Dienste 2FA, ebenfalls als Handy-App. Diesen möchte ich natürlich auf eine andere weise entsperren als meinen Passwortmanager. Bei Proton geht aber nur Biometrie oder eben nichts. Keine PIN kein Passwort. Dass kann doch nicht das Problem sein eine Passwortabfrage zu Implementieren. Ohne, ist diese App nur für Leute ohne Passwortmanager auf dem Handy oder Leite die den Passwortmanager mit was anderem entsperren als Biometrie.

Schade eigentlich, sobald eine Umfangreichere App-Sperre integriert wird wechsle ich direkt!

I was too optimistic

I wish that the Proton Authenticator let you independently set a pin to the app separate to the passcode for your device if you are not using biometrics like you can with the desktop version. I don’t want to use biometrics on my devices. Ever! Nowhere was this behaviour discussed before I started using the app. I did not expect for it to be a case of use biometrics or be locked to your passcode. Disappointing. I do not appreciate the security risk Proton Authenticator has put me under. Passcodes can be overseen or otherwise stolen when used frequently from the plethora of security cameras and the ethics of those behind those cameras. Add the ability to create a custom pin/password so that my codes are more secure, please.

The other missing customisation that I find with Proton Authenticator is that there is no way to customise the icons for the tokens/accounts. Any change to the title changes the icon into a generic letter that doesn’t stand out. If you have multiple accounts from the same company it becomes impossible to tell them apart. If you could add your own icon you could then group the accounts by client or in a way that makes sense. Right now it is very difficult to do that. To the actual authenticator. It does what you would expect. It is nice that you can see the code coming up next so you can start to type that in if there isn’t much time left on the current code. But that is something I think should be standard. I want to see you do better.

Broken liability

The app only works on set up, after this of you need to sign in the codes do not work.
Tried multiple times. This app will cause you to be locked out of your account.
Like many proton offerings- poor implementation.
Also tried the enhanced security- longer codes. These do not work ever! What a broken system

Are the date and time on your device correct? Contact us using the "Feedback" option in the app settings so we can investigate further.

Code Accidental Deletion

I have seen another comment on this review page talking about this same design flaw. I would feel a lot more comfortable if I knew that accidentally swiping away an authentication code is not possible. Please fix this in the next update, there is no reason to keep this ‘feature’

Great app when it works

I open the app and try to get my codes but its just stuck on the splash screen after face ID step. Looks like i will need to switch but not sure how as i cant get in the app💀

Figured it out its because im screen sharing (i am a mobile developer and always cast to my laptop)

Search function was not working. Now it is back to normal. I can easily search the proper account. Very helpful when you have dozens of accounts.

Gut, aber mit Luft nach oben

Grundsätzlich gute Funktion und angenehme Optik. Was mich aber stört, ist der Umgang mit dem Anzeigen oder Ausblenden der Keys. Es geht nur "Anzeigen" oder "Verbergen". Sinnvoll wäre die Option "Verbergen", wenn durch Anklicken eines Keys dieser sichtbar werden würde. Manchmal funktioniert bloßes Kopieren einer nicht sichtbaren Zahl eben nicht.

Best Authenticator App

This has been the best Authenticator app that I’ve personally used (and I’ve used several). Works very well for everything you can ask for with this kind of app and I love the peace of mind it brings with knowing they’re not harvesting unnecessary personal data. I’m not a fan of the fact that the encryption keys for windows OS desktop app is stored locally…defeats the purpose in my eyes for privacy and security, hoping that’s updated in the future. I also am hopeful for it to fully integrate/sync with proton pass eventually if you choose to opt into that. I’d recommend the use of this app to anyone.

Der Authenticator tut, was er soll. Synct zwischen Linux Distros und macOS ohne Probleme. Bin aktuell sehr zufrieden. Gerne weiter so!

Sehr gut Backup über iCloud

Gefällt mir sehr gut das es die Option gibt eine Sicherungskopie in iCloud zu erstellen Mega gut

Not Bad

Let down by a few things:

a) No browser extension.

b) Can’t manually choose an icon for a brand like you can in other software (i.e. cant choose Microsoft icon for Microsoft login).

I note that some issuers are auto assigned an image

Good app

Good app, modern design, easy of use. But it misses groups, being able to group codes would be super helpful

Backup issues

This morning I got this message when using the app

“iCloud backup is no longer available- Your 2FA codes are safe. Due to reliability issues with Apple's iCloud, we've switched to the new backup - works with any drive app including Proton Drive, Dropbox, iCloud and more”.

It would appear from my settings it’s no longer backing up to iCloud. The message however suggests iCloud is still an option. A circular message, it would seem. Needs work.

Our team tested the new backup feature for the Proton Authenticator app, and while the initial testing phase passed successfully after the update was deployed, we've since received reports of unexpected behavior. After investigating, we identified that the issue stems from an interaction with the Proton Drive app. Our development team is currently working on a fix. Due to the technical complexity involved, we cannot provide a specific timeline for resolution at this time. Make sure to keep the app up-to-date for any improvements.

Anything but google.

I refuse to use google anymore. This is a great authenticator app. Proton mail and vpn are also excellent for privacy. Never going back. Beyond sick of the ai.

Gut mit Einschränkungen

Insgesamt funktioniert die App sehr gut, nur leider funktioniert die Synchronisierung über den Account (nicht iCloud!) auf meinen Apple Geräten nicht. Ich muss mich immer wieder neu anmelden. Bei Windows und Android ist es kein Problem.
