About

Accessible and with the targeted use of augmented reality – the new Qantas Founders multimedia guide tells the fascinating story of the founding of the world’s second oldest airline in Longreach at the heart of the Australian outback. The new guide for the Qantas Founders Museum offers tours, accessible screen readers and a special navigation feature: Matching the aviation theme, animated marshallers show visitors the way around the museum’s extensive grounds by signalling the direction to the next station with hand signals. The museum exhibits unique historical aeroplanes that visitors can walk around and view directly. However, as the aircrafts are not accessible to everyone due to physical constraints such as steep entrances, augmented reality models of the exhibits offer a barrier-free alternative – allowing people in wheelchairs or older people with mobility impairments to fully experience and explore the special exhibits as 360 degree virtual walk explorations. To understand the giant feat that was building entire airplanes in the remote Outback with limited ressources, visitors can build an airplane and simulate a historic radial engine in 3D augmented reality.
