Quietus is a real-time parametric synthesizer for ambient sound — every sound is generated live by two synthesis voices controlled by user-editable parameters, with optional binaural beat layers and time-based parameter automation. Choose a noise color for each voice — white, pink, brown, blue, or violet — generated live, not filtered from a loop. Then shape the movement: every LFO has a selectable destination, so you can route modulation to filter cutoff, high-pass, resonance, level, pan, or another LFO's rate. A stereo ping-pong delay and a lookahead limiter sit at the end of the chain. BINAURAL BEATS Optional dual-frequency tones layered into your soundscape, with a carrier from 100 to 400 Hz and a beat frequency from 0.5 to 40 Hz. Two dedicated LFOs can gently drift the carrier, the beat frequency, or the level so the entrainment keeps evolving. Binaural beat frequencies in the delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma ranges have been studied for their associations with relaxation, sleep onset, focused attention, and alertness. Headphones recommended; the binaural effect requires stereo separation. JOURNEY AUTOMATION Program your sound to change over time. Set waypoints with target values for any of 15+ parameters, pick an interpolation curve (linear, ease-in, ease-out, ease-in-out, or step), and press play. Quietus handles the transitions, and your LFOs keep moving on top of the automation. A 90-minute sleep journey might begin in alpha frequencies with filtered noise, then drift toward delta with darker filters before fading to silence. When a journey is running, you can grab any slider to take over manually.
