Data loss
I upgraded to iOS 13 and the app no longer opens.The app was great up until then all of my inputs I no longer have access to.
Love the look.
So far I’m not having the same limitations issue. But how do you edit a quote. Tap, hold, then choose worked only 1 time and that was by accident. Please, what’s the process? Thanks.
Deleted after attempting to add three quotes...
Tried to add three separate quotes to this app on my iPhone 8 Plus. Gave me a message that “said” space only accepts one line when I tried to copy and paste in the name “Johann Wolfgang von Goethe”. App DID accept the same name in that space after I manually typed it in. However, upon attempting to enter my next quote, I got the error saying the quote was too long. That quote was, “"Compromise where you can, but where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that someone wrong, is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say, no, you move." That quote was from Peggy Carter in Captain America. Cannot leave out room for something that good. So, app has been deleted for now. Limits still appear to be in place in spite of recent update.

Total disappointment. Limited field lengths, no searching...
I was so EXCITED to find this app, but was almost immediately disappointed. It had 4.4 stars which boded well. I got the app for free today, else I’d be very angry for wasting my money on what amounts to a useless app. I don’t understand how it has the 4.4 star rating, and I doubt it will remain at that level for long without significant changes and additional features. It will drop, or fall out of existence. As it stands, very few people will find it useful for an extended period of time. As someone who writes frequently for area nonprofit website and social media, I had such high hopes for this app, but was deeply disappointed. Please, read on.
For several years I’ve been using Apple Notes to keep a running list of quotes I’ve come across from news stories, books, friends, even TV shows. It’s an OK approach, but certainly not optimal. I opened my “Quotes” document in the Apple Notes app to immediately begin copying and pasting my personal collection into Quotato. Truly, I desperately wanted this app to be useful! That it doesn’t even come close to usefulness, at least for me, is probably why I’m so very disappointed. I’m surprised at the rating given my own experiences and observations.
Observations:
Item 1: I immediately made 4 attempts to add quotes, and 3 of them gave me an error message “Oops to long”. That’s a 75% entry failure rate! In the first 2 minutes! I was crushed at this imposed limitation, one that I simply cannot understand. Since when is a valuable quote only allowed to be X number of characters?
Item 2. This exceedingly “minimalist tool” (not a good thing) has 3 unattractive rows for entry and then a big DONE button.
- Row 1 is a blank field/line
- Row 2 simply has the word “SAID” in the screen center
- Row 3 is another blank field/line

This would lead nearly any reader to assume “Author/Source” SAID “Quotation”. But no! The reality is the exact opposite. The only way I was able to get the single successful quote entered (1 successful attempt out of 4 total attempts) was by putting the Author/source info in the 2nd field. Maybe it could be changed to read “SAID BY”.
In 3 of the 4 failed entry attempts to enter quotes, in Row 1 I received an error message of “Oops to long”. This is where the imposed quote length limitation shows up. Why? For what purpose?
In one of the 4 attempts, I entered something into the the 2nd row, which at the time was presumed to be the quotation field, and I received an error message of “Maximum one line”. It was this that showed the fields were actually reversed from what they logically appear to be by the design/layout on the display. A little more explanation could be extremely helpful.
So, both the quote field and the author/source field are limited in length, however the allowable length is never provided, at least not that I could find. If you’re going to provide an error message based on exceeding a field length, then PLEASE indicate what the field length actually is. Not that limiting the length is appropriate!
Item 3: I could not find any searching capability. I was stunned. A spreadsheet, word processor, or even the most basic Apple Notes tool provides significantly more capability, including search! Assuming anyone would use this tool long enough to store a significant number of quotes, how would the developers expect a user to find a specific quote without having to read or scan through, potentially, every single entry?
Item 4: This “tool” is as disappointing visually as functionally. It is as visually and aesthetically unappealing of an app as I’ve ever seen. In this day and age, aesthetics, visual appeal and ease-of-use are almost as important as functionality. Given the amount of competition today, it is often the aesthetics and user-friendliness that will win over more users. This app, unfortunately, fails in all these areas. See the pretty darn accurate “drawing” of the tool appearance above.
TO THE CREATORS: PLEASE, give us an app without size limitations on the quote length (researchers, writers, journalists, filmmakers or authors creating a working “bible”, all kinds of folks would benefit from this!), and have a few users preview the user interface before publishing the next version. And please, allow the users to search for keywords. Even better, allow for users to add tags to quotes. Tagging would allow a user to indicate the relevancy of a particular quote to a subject matter unrelated to the specific words of the text. For example, a user might want to tag a quote as being relevant to #veterans, #politics, #dog lovers, etc. For those who write, whether journaling, blogging, authors, etc., this function would be invaluable! Make it a .99 cents in-app purchase if necessary. There’s so very much potential here to meet a very real need. I’ve searched and searched, but have yet to find an app that lets me record my own quotes, and use tagging to tie a quote to a seemingly, yet very important, unrelated subject.
With the app showing up in today’s “AppAdvice”, you’ll be getting a significant number of new downloads I’m sure. That’s how I found and immediately downloaded this app. For your sake, go into the app description in the App Store, and add some information that indicates that searching and tagging are combing soon! And then, do it! I know I, and many others, won’t wait long for the new features to be added before forgetting or consciously abandoning an app that has tremendous potential, but falls so very short as it currently exists today.
