Radio Navigation Simulator IFR User Reviews

Makes radio nav more complex

One of the worse and complicated apps , if it was easy to learn, they would of had a free trail period, which they don’t . Wast of money and time .

Might be a good app, but who knows?

Okay I was looking for some quick practive using a VOR. The UI is not self-explanatory, there is no context sensitive help, and the only thing on youtube is a marketing piece.

I don't have 9 years to read the doc from beginning to end.

What's sorely needed is a demo video that walks you through some basic setup and usage.

Criminally underrated

This app, in all the ways that matter, accurately simulates ground-based navaid navigation. It’s an excellent tool for practice and teaching, or just geeking out on your non-flying days if you’re a dork like me. It pairs best with ForeFlight to make a brilliant sandbox for the bored pilot. Fly DME arcs, practice intersection holds, manage heading, altitude and airspeed -these are my ideas of a good time!!!

The best, BUT...

Early days yet, and this is quite a complicated interface, so first I shall have to persuade my students that it’s worth investing the time to learn it. First impressions, it has a good range of instrument panels and is the only app I’ve found that properly simulates an HSI. It’s also one of only two apps that I’ve found that simulates an RBI. I’m disappointed that the DME only shows decimals below 10 nm; this is unrealistic, makes calculating leading a turn beyond that distance difficult at low ground speeds, and makes simulating flying a 10nm DME arc impossible, something I had wanted to demonstrate to a student before flying it. UPDATE. Within a week of posting this review I had a response from the developer saying decimal DME up to 99.9 nm was being prepared this month along with other upgrades. Excellent customer support, and I look forward to the update.

Response from developer

Hi, thank you for your review. This update has now been released (apologies for delay), which provides decimal DME support out to 99.9 nautical miles plus iOS14 compatibility changes. Thanks for supporting the app, and hopefully you and your students will get some benefit during training.

Great Flt. App.

Great app. to facilitate good navigation standards.

Helped me learn instrument flying

Once you get get used to the user interface, it's a very capable learning aid

Useful app

A good training aid

The USA data area is very useful...

I have reviewed this app previously when I first purchased it and it was tremendously helpful for my flight training, in those early days of figuring out what instruments did what and why.

I recently updated and discovered to my delight that it now provides data for the whole USA to purchase within the app, which I bought immediately. I am now able fly routes I am actually familiar, with as well as allowing me to practice some that I'm not. I can see this being a huge benefit for anyone training or just wanting to learn in their own backyard.

This app just gets better with each version, and I'm looking forward to the next updates.

Again, highly recommended. Thanks.

Don't buy this

Horrible waste of 5 dollars. Feed a bum instead of buying this.

Very helpful

I find this program very helpful in understanding the basic instrument fly theory

RNS Pro

I am new at air navigation and wanted to learn more because I use Flight Sims on my IPAD. This helped me 100% in learning air nav. Being new, I had to look up other resources to help explain some terms. After better educating myself I found this to be an Excellent sim to learn and practice air navigation using VOR/ADF/DME/HSI. VERY GOOD JOB TO THE DEVELOPERS! Though be ware, you may have to look up other sources depending on your experience level. I highly recommend for those interested in air navigation.

Fantastic training tool

A great app to practice radionavigation using VORs, ADF, DME.

Ammjay

This is an serious, professional, training aid. It covers real-time navigation with all the basic nav instruments.

Limited

After a short training time it's no longer useful. Could be so much more if navaids were customizable to practice and learn local freqs, ports and procs

Excellent training aid

I m a instrument training student and using this app has really helped me visualize what is going on with my position in relationship to nav. Aids

Dont bother

Waste of cash

Please add ILS Approaches

Really great application to practice the radio navigation instruments, BUT it would be great if you guys add ILS approaches and I would gladly turn my rating to 5 stars!!! Even some other 4$ applications have ILS approaches! It would be great to see the LOC back course concepts and so on.. I hope you guys read the reviews.. Thanks!

Fantastic app

I am currently a helicopter CFI and CFII, I found this game one evening while waiting for my charter to finish eating dinner. After playing it for the 2 hour wait, I recommended it to all my students. Games are the fastest way to learn

Excellent!

Well worth it!

Never get lost in space....

It's a decade ago sine I did my IFR in Austria and had a very pleasant teacher using such tool at the times. Now having it available on iPad/iPhone is even more a joy. Especially to emphasize a aircrafts position in relation to Navigation Aids.
Very good tool to teach students as well to give them a tool to train there ability to fly an airplane with the support of instrument, rather having them guessing where they might be or where to go next.

I suggest only one thing as improvement, that would be to increase the timer speed up to 4 factors rather having only one.

To ease the way through interpreting the instruments I suggest the iBook written by Wilhelm Thaller "Never get lost".

Both, the book as well that kind of application made me to fly IFR with confidence from the very first day.
