Radio Shorties User Reviews

Don’t waste your time with this app

Why is this app still being offered for sale? It hasn't been updated since 2018 and quite simply doesn't work with IOS 16. The support page claims comparability with iOS 12! They still try and take your money though! Beware!

Has this been abandoned?

No idea how you get this to work!

Good but needs improvement

Paid for this app after the ongoing failure of Apple to implement radio on the HomePod within the UK. The app works and is a keeper and allows addition of custom streams. 2 faults. It takes 2, sometimes 3, verbal requests for radio to start playing from ‘idle’. i.e when I return home from work or anytime i guess when you leave and return to your home wifi network. Also after switching to a different station Siri will reply “sorry i can't do that” when instructed to raise/lower the volume. It always works on the second attempt.

Subscription model

This might just be the the exact solution I’m after. But sadly (for me), the idea of paying for a subscription to access to free to air radio just doesn’t quite sit right. A once off fee would be much preferred.

It works but the UI seems a bit sloppy

Does what it says but you have to program it to know the voice command. I don’t see the reason for a continuing subscription when the user sets the commands. The radio stations themselves are all over the map on their graphics/logo, giving a cheap and insecure feeling. I asked myself if KEXP was right since the logo looks worse than I can describe.

There are sometimes different versions of the same station, typically different bit rates. The app doesn’t explain this, lending to more confusion and insecurity about selecting a radio station. Otherwise, it does appear to be the only show in town that plays radio stations on my HomePod.

Most of the time it doesn’t work. Save your money!

I paid for the app but I’ve given up with it because it rarely works. You ask Siri to play a station with a shortcut you have created and most of the time, nothing happens.

I have emailed the developers several times but they don’t respond. Stay away.

Why no Scala Radio

Love the app. Apple should do this natively. Perhaps after the WWDC?

Why no Scala radio though in the app?

Rubbish

This app is Rubbish.

Doesn’t work

I tired this app and it doesn’t work. Won’t connect to any of my 4 HomePods. The support is non-existent. I emailed via help button on app. No response. The developers are in Germany. Unless you’re German, don’t bother. I would love to use and PAY FOR this app, but it’s ridiculous. Apps, like this out to be banned from Apple App Store.

Help!!

Love the concept, however I only get the Add To Siri with the kiss kiss radio, it does not come up for any other radio. Does anyone know what to do??

Kind of a bait and switch

You are told the app works with Siri and all these features, but when you go to actually use it none of that stuff is available unless you upgrade to the premium monthly payment version. You should be allowed to do a single station of your choice and have Siri work for it to be an honest app.

Would be great but doesn’t let me subscribe.

The ap works on my friends device but the Go Premium section doesn’t then come up with the options to subscribe. As a result I can’t subscribe, can’t add any stations to favourites, can’t create Siri shortcuts and can’t use with my HomePod.

Possibly this is a bug that needs an update patch to sort.

No way to subscribe to premium

Trying to get my HomePod working. Can’t subscribe to premium within the app, just keeps telling me I have no subscriptions. No support page on the website and the menu keeps over half the page when using the website.

Very nice

Inexplicable why Apple don’t like to stream radio, but this app plugs that gap well. Essential for HomePod owners. Looks and sounds great.

One gripe (and I’m sure it’s an iOS thing). I can’t specify where I’d like to play with Siri. Sure I can activate a Siri shortcut to get the nearest HomePod to play but for multi room audio I have to go and pick my phone up and select the speaker(s). I’d love that to change so the Radio can move with me around the house in the morning.

What HomePod should have automatically

The HomePod is a superb sounding speaker but not being able to listen to the radio on it has always been frustrating.

This little app solves this problem beautifully. An easy to set up and simple to use app.

You just set up a Siri shortcut for different stations (within the app) and then tell the HomePod to play the station.

Wonderful.

Updated: Great idea and now works fine

I initially gave this a one star review because when I tried to actually use it with my iPhone X and HomePod, Siri would only respond that “there was a problem with the app,” and the app didn’t show up as a Shortcut compatible app in Siri preferences. But now it works fine and I can use Siri shortcuts to start playback of streaming radio on my HomePod, which was exactly what I was looking for, as none of the other big radio streaming apps other than Receiver support Siri shortcuts. So, thanks for fixing the issues and thanks for making the app.

Very promising app

I have just started the free trial and my first impressions are very positive.

I have added a few shortcuts and the HomePod responds via Siri and plays the requested radio station. Additionally, the sound quality of the streams is very good.

A couple of caveats though 1) not all of the local BBC stations seem to be supported (eg Radio WM) and 2) on occasion it can take up to 30 seconds before the radio stream starts playing.

On the whole though this is a welcome addition to the Apple HomePod ecosystem and I can see myself using this every day.

Works great

I can say hey Siri play iHeartRadio Christmas and it plays in my HomePod.
Only wish we could add more stations.

Very Good

Very Good App At Least My Radio On Home Pod Thanks Just Buy It Guys

Great app! Love getting radio stations on my HomePod

The app is nice looking and easy to use. The Siri Shortcut support lets me listen to radio stations on my HomePod without having to pick up my phone. Great support from the developer (via email) as well.
