Good, but needs more backgrounds. The same for years.

As a classroom teacher with multiple classes, I very much appreciate this random name chooser app. Looking forward to more upper elementary style backgrounds in the future.

Regret upgrading

Since upgrading it has not been user friendly and often have issues with the app despite the upgrades and so “Bug”Fixing. Regret buying the upgrade.

You can’t load more than 20 names

NOT happy with this app.
You just screwed a small business out of $6.99, what’s worse is that this seems to be a regular thing for you.

Hi My 5enses, Thanks for reaching out. I am really sorry you feel that way, but there is not a 20 name limit on the "Random Name Selector Pro" app? I think you may be confusing the Free version of the app "Random Name Selector Starter" which does have a maximum limit of 20 members per group. The idea of this is that users can try the "starter" version (for Free) before committing to purchasing the "Pro" version (which has no limit). I hope that all makes sense, but if not please feel free to contact us from inside the app by going to "Settings/Need Help?/Email Support"

Not working

App was working fine for ages, now all of a sudden shuts down as soon as I try to open it.

Excellent. In addition...

Further to my previous review, using the pro version has also given me the ability to choose a theme or select my own and also password the settings section which is very handy. The Groups also have a counter for the number of active names in the group and the individual names can be turned on or turned off. This saves much time. Excellent app developer. Best on market.

My app will not even open! I can’t contact you all because of that, I am going to give the rating at this moment 3 stars even though it deserves 5 but I need to use it and I can’t even open the app. Should I delete and re-download again?

Great customer service!

I used the free version for years and finally upgraded to the full version. I was having trouble importing from Dropbox so I emailed for help and they responded within hours. And when I still had trouble, I sent them my list and they formatted it for me. So now I am up and running with no problems. My kids love it when I use the “magic” hat!

Crashed

This app crashed on me after I made all my lists. Had it for literally a couple of days. It’s a rip-off

It’s good but....

This app is good what I need it for except I had over 30 names in a group and when I went to open the app it wouldn’t open, just kept crashing. I uninstalled then reinstalled the app, I lost the list of names, didn’t back up. Hopefully this will be fixed after paying money for this.

Hi Mgjsmith, Thanks for the review and the useful feedback. I will take your comments onboard and look into providing local file storage/backup on the device in a future release. We do have the facility to sync to a free Dropbox account in the current release of the app. By syncing groups/group memebrs to Dropbox this would avoid losing any existing group/group member data. If you have any suggestions as to how the app can be improved further I would love to hear them. You can do this by selecting "Settings/Share Fedback" from inside the app.

Not working

There must be a glitch or an update needed. After buying it, it now will not open and crashes immediately.

NEEDS IMPROVING

I would like to see a more fun way of the names being selected, for instance just appearing on screen just doesn’t cut it. Make them all sweep in and jump about then pick the unlucky learner.
Add a random headline like, “the lucky winner is”:-
or
“John you have been picked because your cool”
or
“Peter your best in class as you’ve been picked”

How about a water fall with the names toppling over until only one is left.

Why not put parachutes on their names and have only the winners name open his or her parachute and land safely or the other way round the parachutes open but the unlucky one lands in a manure heap and has to answer the question.

Think fun.

Hi Noblepasimov, Thanks for your feedback. I do appreciate you taking the time to provide the constructive critisisium. The main focus of the app is not so much to display a "Winner". It is more to ensure all members of the class are given the opportunity to participate, and no one is left out. It is often the case that the more exuberant students get picked to answer a question or complete a task. Using this app the teacher can ensure even the most reserved student gets a chance to shine. I feel it may be too distracting if there were a big "Fanfare" each time a students name were displayed, it could also become annoying after, for example, 26 names were drawn. I hope that helps put the purpose of the app into context and helps to explain why the app works the way it does. I do think your "and the Winner is" suggestion is an excellent idea...perhaps for a future app with a slightly different focus.

It is a big hit

I use this program to run various raffle draws at a golf club. Enter all the participants and then select which golfers have entered each raffle and run the App. Works great and saves paper and a lot of time.

Poor performance, documentation and support

This app works erratically, is prone to crashing and has nearly no documentation. Audio did not work for me either.

Not Impressed

Not easy to create groups from csv files, not user friendly, help feature not extensive, help is non-responsive. App now crashes my phone every time I open it.

Hi RHenderson77, I am sorry to hear you are having an issue creating groups/group members from a csv file. It should be a straight forward process, if you email support (you can do this directly from inside the app) or email support@academyapps.net I will certainly do my best to help with this. I fully accept we need to update the Help section for this app. To be honest, we have been concentrating on adding functionality (mainly from user requests...including users being able to add hundreds of groups/group members via a csv or text file!). Now we have added this functionality, which we are really excited about!... we need to improve the Help section. I will prioritise this and get much more extensive Help material published in the next few days. The help section is a web page, this is so we can update it on a regular basis, and respond quickly to this type of request. So the performance of this may relate to the quality of your internet connection?...I will also check things at our end. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Good and Bad reviews all help us to make the app better in the long term!
