Nice 😎

ReadAloud is a handy app for turning PDFs, articles and other documents into audio. I like that it works offline and supports so many languages, so you don’t have to rely on an internet connection. The background playback, CarPlay support and ability to export audio to MP3 are great additions too. 🎧

IT WORKS

This app reads everything especially as someone with dyslexia it really helps

Helpful not fully accurate

The copy and paste work well, the capture is not advanced enough to read within columns. It read across the full page when captured within the app itself. Had to use another app to paste the correctly captured and transcribed text

Response from developer

Thanks again, Nicky, and you were right. Version 1.9.0 is now available with a change for this: after you scan a page or choose a photo, ReadAloud asks “Does this scan have columns?” Tap “Mark Columns”, drag the lines between the columns, and each column is read one after the other. It also fixes some lines being mixed up on dense pages. The question can be turned back on under Voice & Playback > Scanning. I hope this works better for your pages. If a scan still reads in the wrong order, a photo of the page sent to our support address would help us a lot.

A Subfolder Setup would be nice, good app

A Subfolder Setup would be nice, good app though. I wish I could come across an app that would allow me to thoroughly catergorize book series by folder and subfolder so the subfolder can handle the chapters while the first folder mentions which series it is. The reading of the narration voice is the best. A few slight typo pronunciation errors thanks to slight unclesr scanning and it would be nice to have an option where page numbers at the bottom of the page were able to be toggled off and on. I like hearing the page numbers it reminds where I am in the books audio recording.

Response from developer

Thanks again for the detailed feedback, and a quick update: both ideas are already in the app. You can create folders and subfolders in your Library to organize a series (series folder → books → chapters). For PDFs, there is a toggle in the player to turn spoken page numbers on or off. If a scan is unclear, OCR typos can still affect pronunciation, and I’m continuing to improve that. If something doesn’t work the way you expect, please email me and I’ll help.
