About
Stuck behind a link you can't open? Share it to Readette from Safari, paste it in the app, or just type the article's title: Readette looks through public sources for free reading on the same subject, including the writer's own website when it can find it.
RELATED READING, HONESTLY
Readette finds related reading: posts people shared on Hacker News (often on the writers' own blogs), newsletter posts, repositories with the article's code or notes, independent sites and official docs. It does not claim to find the same article, and it never removes a paywall or copies an article. A page for paid subscribers stays for paid subscribers; paid posts are marked and sorted below the free ones.
THE WRITER'S OWN SITE
For a Medium link with an author's handle, Readette looks for a GitHub profile with that same name and a website, and lists the site first, marked "Likely the author's site". Writers often post the same piece there.
SHARE, PASTE OR TYPE
In Safari or any app, tap Share and choose Readette: the results appear right in the share sheet. A link is taken apart on your device, with its title read from the address, and is never opened by the search. If a link has no title in it, Readette asks you to type one.
RANKED, NOT JUST LISTED
Each result says why it is there: Title match, Close title, Same author, Code on GitHub, Independent site, Official docs. Duplicates found by two sources are merged and ranked higher. Results that share only some of the title's words wait, folded, under Loosely related.
SEND THE LIST
Share list sends the free reads as a short list to whoever shared the link with you.
YOU CHOOSE THE SOURCES
Hacker News, Substack and GitHub are on by default; switch any off in Settings. The Sources card tells you which answered, which found nothing and which could not be reached, so an empty list is never a mystery.
A READER OF ITS OWN
Open a result in Readette's reader window: a plain web view that keeps no cookies and no history and shows the page exactly as its site serves it. Or send results to Safari instead.
MADE FOR iPHONE AND iPAD
Light and dark appearance, Dynamic Type, and 34 languages. Readette is also on the Mac, as a menu bar app.
PRIVACY
No account, no analytics, no tracking. Readette uses the network only to ask the sources you chose, sending the words of the title (and, for a Medium link, the author's handle) and nothing else, and to show a page you open. The link you paste is never fetched by a search.
Requires iOS 17 or later.
