Doesnt provide useful recipes

I tried to mix a few Munsell colors by this app using Golden Artist paints. The recipes did not provide the target color.

Response from developer

Please send us the target colors and how did you use the paint bases, so we can help you to figure out what is going wrong. Update: We received and checked the case reported by the user and found that the app was used incorrectly: the user created a formula for one paint line, then used it to mix colors from another paint line that is not included in the app. Clearly, the error in the mixed color has nothing to do with the app. The app review is not about the app itself and should be removed!

Outstanding

RealPaint is the gold-standard color-mixing guide
I’ve been using it for years, with gratitude.
I hope this app is alive and well for coming generations!

Great App but missing a key feature

I really enjoy this app- It is easy and simple to use to pick out colors from a photograph. I just wish that you could see the picked color on a color wheel. I use different pigments then the ones used in the app( like Ultramarine Blue then pthalo) for mixing and showing the picked color on a color wheel would give artists a good map to mix the selected color without having to follow the prescribed pigments. It would be the ultimate painting app if it had a color wheel. I hope they can implement it an update!

Amazing tool for painters

I use Gamblin oils and this app is amazing!!! There are a good amount of brands to choose from and this app tells you the exact amounts of the exact paint colors to mix the exact colors it color matches for you! Just go through the settings thoroughly to make sure you have everything set the way you need it for the brand you are using. Anyone giving this app a low rating just doesn’t know what they are doing. This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!

Thank you for the great review!

It's not very practical !!

In tis app there is very little variety of colors that is uses .
It uses a few limited colors on each images.

Response from developer

We don’t understand why are you so disappointed to write a 1-star review. The app description clearly says how many paint bases you have to mix the colors of your images. You don’t have any limitation on the target color of your pictures, but physical paint can not cover the rgb color space completely. This is why you have an auto-desaturation function. In some brands you can mix even colors outside the rgb space. This is just physics, not a problem with the app! It is very strange that you don’t know this already if you have an art studio.

Close to perfect!

As an IT Business Analyst I can assure that this app is close to perfect in many ways:
- the color science behind it is as accurate as possible and best practice!
- the workflow from a point of an artist is as simple and convenient as possible
- the database contain a very good selection of often used manufacturers
- the price is more than fair
The more I dive into the math and logic, the more I admire the excellent job done by the creators!

A big thank you for sharing the knowledge.

Thanks a lot!

Great app to color finding

I love this app. It’s so helpful to find the color mixing formula to get the right color I need. The only thing I wished it had in the Paint Brand and Line was a watercolor line. I use winsor and newton professional watercolors. The closest line I found was the WN gouache color combination. I can manage but your app is so good at giving the right color name for the gouache that I wished I had access to a watercolor option too. Maybe soon?

Saves time ... and paint!

OMG! This app is exactly what I was hoping to find in the App Store after struggling to create the acrylic paint colors needed while painting canvas to match a photograph. Thank you!

Really useful

Great app for mixing large quantities of paint for projects that started in a digital space but have to be realized in paint.

Amazing tool!

This app has been such a valuable tool to me. It helps to identify color blends easily and accurately, which saves me time and paint!

Wonderful application

I just upgraded to the paid version, because of the numerous brands covered. It’s very configurable in terms of palette preferences (e.g. no black). It gives me quick pointers to difficult colours (I use a limited CMYK palette). Selecting colors directly from the image eliminates optical tricks/illusions. Highly recommended.

Handy app for Munsell color system

This app does a good job helping me identify Munsell colors from a photograph, better than any of the other apps I have tried.

A few suggestions would be to see the Munsell code on the mixing page. Also allow different base colors for W&N, the ones picked are unusual. Another feature would be to show the Munsell charts, where the mix falls.

Great job!

suggestion

Works as advertised.
The Vermeer painting you use as an example? Old Holland Paints claims it was made with their paints. Currently playing around with these paints & would love to see their pallet included.

Realpaint

This app is amazing giving you beautiful mature greys and mixes

Great app

This app is amazing. I just have one suggestion: there should be a dialog warning that you will lose the color you are working with when switch to the photo page. Also, the photo page should do nothing to your working color until you actually pick a spot in the photo. Other than that, its great and I still give it 5 stars.

Response from developer

Thank you very much for your feedback. This app has many applications and ways to use it. Sometimes what is best for one method, may be not optimal for another. Artists painting from a picture usually prefer updating the colors immediately when entering the Photo Page. Mixing colors starting from the Color Page is another way of using the app. In this case, switching to the Photo Page your colors are updated, but on the Color Page you can go back to the previous color with just one click on the top left arrow. If this doesn’t solve your application needs, please write to our support to discuss the topic offline. We’ll find the solution which best fits your needs!

Invaluable app for anyone who paints from a photo reference

This app does a wonderful job of presenting ways to mix a selected colour from a digital image. The user can select one of a large number of paint sets from prominent manufacturers. For each set, only several colours are used, which means the artist can purchase all of them if he or she desires. This app will simply be invaluable for many painters. The developer is also responsive and very helpful.

Response from developer

Thank you very much for your kind review. Please note that each paint line has 6 colors used in mixing and they don’t change. A painter using a selected brand needs only the 6 bases (+ black and white), nothing more. When the selected palette is 3 bases, these 3 are part of the previous 6. The reason why the colored bases are fixed is that the auto-desaturation function is very complicated and it would be too time consuming otherwise.

Very Limited Capabilities

Expected more customization. A similar app allows me to select specific colors from a variety of manufacturers and then determine the various mixes I can create from those colors. This app looks good but lacks true functionality.
