Great concept, flawed business model

Not enough people are talking about the cycle that users are in when their series is canceled.

For the series to commence past the Meet & Greet, there needs to be at least five people from the M&G that commit and pay. If you pay to continue the series with the initial M&G group and not enough people commit, then your series is canceled and you’re moved to another M&G. However, you do not receive a refund for the series.

You’re matched to a new meet and greet for free (don’t have to pay the $25). However, if you do not connect with the new group and don’t wanna proceed, or the series is canceled again because of numbers it’s just a never-ending cycle of being rematched to new M&Gs.

Women in this case should receive a refund because they’re paying to hang out with the people they made initial connections with and this is no longer happening! You don’t know if the next series is going to be a good fit or if it’s going to be canceled again.

I would recommend:

1. Increasing the number of women at the M&Gs. Even though a group of 12-16 women isn’t as intimate as a smaller group a bigger pool means that more people are more likely to sign up. Groups of 10 clearly aren’t making it to the series. My original group had eight women, but only six showed up at the M&G and only four proceeded to pay for the series. We were one person short, which is why our group was canceled, and we were already at a disadvantage with only six women starting out.
2. Give women the offer to proceed with a smaller group at a discount. I enjoyed my time with my initial connections so much that I would have continued with a group of four at regular price. Even though a group of 5 to 6 women is ideal, clearly it’s hard to meet this goal when putting groups together. I also think RealRoots should emphasize quality over quantity or else people would not sign up to be matched. I would much rather build relationships with a group of 3 other women I could see a friendship with than to not even have the opportunity at all because there weren’t enough people.
3. The price of the meet and greet should be raised to weed out people who are not serious about committing to the series. I have heard from several women that they only sign up for the M&Gs just to meet people and exchange contacts because “they can hang out for free”. I signed up for RealRoots because I like the structure of it and it is very hard to find people who are consistent. Having people who only want to do the M&G portion only is unfair to the people who actually want to commit to the series. I think raising the price of a meet and greet would weed out these people.

Great experience, flawed concept. Give refunds to canceled series or at least offer to let women proceed with smaller groups. Please get more people on your team so the app can run smoother and the emails have less mistakes.

Incredible experience

Joining RealRoots has been one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. It gave me the opportunity to meet genuine, supportive people in a welcoming environment where I felt comfortable being myself. I’ve stepped outside my comfort zone, tried new activities, and made connections that I probably wouldn’t have made otherwise. It’s been refreshing to be part of a community that encourages personal growth and meaningful friendships. I’m grateful for everyone who has helped make the experience so positive, and I would definitely recommend RealRoots to anyone looking to build authentic connections

Scam!

This company is a scam!

Not bad! App needs help

I went to 1 meet and greet in the LA area. Was a last minute decision bc I had skipped the one I planned previously. So idk if I was “matched” at all. The group was massive and diverse at dinner. Nice women! But definitely for the “new in town” and those who are very very open to letting strangers in. I realized it’s not for me. I’m looking for depth and local activities. This can be a good way for out of towners to find their footing.

App needs help. You can only dandelion desktop web. That is not clear. The only function in the app is to email support but they take up to 3 days to respond so if you want to cancel a trial you need to go to your desktop web. That’s not clear.

Good experience.

Had a great time with the girls picked for me!

The Company is Ridiculous

I signed up for a dinner weeks ago — a date and location I picked myself, from the options their own quiz gave me. The day before the event, I got an email saying their "predicted compatibility score" had found me a better group: three weeks later, in a completely different part of the city. An area I only marked because I could swing it on a weekend, not as a workweek rush-hour commute. They didn't ask if any of this worked for me. They just moved me, told me to "do nothing" if it was fine, and left the new location for me to discover in the confirmation email.

I would not have minded if they had asked. They didn't ask. They did it without my consent — and as a woman, consent is very important to me. For a company built around intentional, thoughtful connection, doing things TO your customers instead of with them is a wild choice.

The best part: their own cancellation policy charges ME $25 if I cancel less than a day out. They moved my entire event with 24 hours' notice and a heart emoji. By their own terms they owe me a refund plus $25.

I don't get mad easily and I have never written a bad review in my life. I am flabbergasted by the audacity.

If I could give zero stars I would.

Tried to change me for their own failures

I signed up for a series that was cancelled after two events where the guide was a no-show. Rather than offering a refund or resolution, they moved me into a different series without my consent — and then had the nerve to charge me a cancellation fee when I tried to leave.

This is a new company that clearly hasn’t figured out how to treat customers. I would have tried another series in the future, but this experience has made that impossible. Save yourself the frustration.

Not tgat good

I had a terrible experience. None of my initial matches worked out, even though I paid for the entire program, and I had to keep getting matched again and again.

When I requested a refund, the person who responded seemed to be trying to mislead me by claiming that I had not paid for the program. After I sent multiple pieces of proof, she finally said she would process the refund.

However, I am still waiting, and nothing has been resolved.

Fun idea but flawed concept and bad app

It’s kind of a flawed system because you can just connect with people and then agree to meet up with them again without paying 300$. From the ones I’ve done most people don’t show up or drop off after the first meeting. I was connected to people way younger than me and didn’t really have much in common even though they make you do the quiz and supposedly spend “hours” matching you up. The app is also extremely bad. It will log out and make me sign up completely again and then suddenly remember me. It also randomly signed me up for events that aren’t even in my city. It’s a fun idea but at least in my area it doesn’t really pan out and the concept is expensive just for someone to give you timed tasks and tell you what to talk about. I don’t believe they deliberately match you because it’s just anyone that signs up for that date. If they got a group and then assigned dates then it would make sense. But they aren’t turning people down from dates which means there is no care in who you are matched with. Saying they spend hours on matching is just a lie. It’s age range and little else. In a major city it might work better but it’s definitely false advertising that they match you on purpose.

Worth Every Penny

I genuinely met the most amazing group of women through this app. I would do it again 10000x over

Don’t Waste Your Time and Money

This feels like a total scam. For a program that says they value price transparency they’re not at all transparent. All the materials that I received before signing up and paying the $289 for the series describe that you’re paying for 7 weeks of events + meal, the initial M&G email I got describes this, the post M&G “what’s in store for you” email, and the “You did it, here’s what next email” ALL say here’s 7 weeks of events (including the M&G which you already pay $25 for separately but okay), which will have an activity and meal to promote bonding. Come to find out day before my first event that the lunches aren’t included at all, and 4/6 remaining weeks of activities are all already free or no cost to the organizer (walks, 1-1s, more walks, self-planned reunion) so what am I even paying for?!! I don’t get any impression that I was deliberately matched with my group either, they’re all nice enough but we have very limited things on common from what I’m learning so I think it’s literally just based on the meet and greet date that you choose when you’re first singing up, not intentionally matching. This is such a waste - don’t even bother. Not to mention all the other reviews about the app are correct; I can’t access any features other than my series group chat and daily mindfulness. There are no clubs, can’t sign up for any 1-1s, can’t access the community forum, nothing that I’m supposed to have access to after they force you into being a member for 1 year when purchasing the series…

Just do it!

This is exactly what I needed as a young adult female trying to find friends that match my stage in life. Late 20s but career focused no longer looking for bar hoping besties, but book reading, dinner party having, professional women trying to get out and learn something new.

I was nervous putting myself out there but it was worth it. As a new mom I needed to find something for myself and this was it.

Love it!

The app is so easy to navigate and provides all of the functionality you need for this experience.

Great concept, app needs some work.

The Real Roots platform and concept are WONDERFUL!! The app doesn’t live up to expectations. Chat needs emoji and REPLY to comment features, as well as tagging. Also you would not know anything all the other ways to connect with people from the app because those features only show up online. I think members would be more likely to stick out a series if they could clearly see the long term offering via the app.

It was a great expirence

The app is a little clunky, but the concept is amazing I had a great time and enjoyed the entire expirience

A really well thought out experience

This is my 2nd time doing real roots and it’s a great way to meet new people and try great restaurants in the area. I love the 1 on 1 matching weekly it really forces you out of your comfort zone and to get out and meet people.

Meaningful connections!

RealRoots is great for nurturing meaningful connections with likeminded women. If you’re ready and willing to put in the effort to make new friends, I strongly recommend this app!
