Search by keyword & info in feed

The new version took away the search by keyword functionality. Bring it back.

I do not like my followers seeing changes I make to my profile. Having every bio edit or minor photo change broadcast to people in an activity feed feels unnecessary and exposed, especially compared to how quietly Recon used to handle account updates. It’s too Facebookish. Recon should add a global toggle to opt out of broadcast feed updates altogether (so followers aren't notified when one edits their bio/photos).

Unusable

This app is unusable because if the new update, super laggy, it signs you out for no reason and the message take a loong time to appear so you can’t really have a fluent conversation, at least add the option to reply to an specific message, that would be great

Do some customer research

I’ve been using Recon almost since its inception. This latest update is a disaster. Whoever provided the strategy failed. Do some customer research and build in some new features. It’s so sad to feel that this once beloved app may become redundant. :(

Self-destructed

I’ve been a paid member of this app for many years, but have stopped this since the latest refresh. Hard to believe that an app can go backwards in terms of usability and functionality, but Recon managed it in spectacular fashion. The new version demonstrates a complete lack of understand of what fetish users want. We don’t care who is located immediately within our vicinity. We want a quick way of knowing who is online and who shares our kicks in our neighbourhood or in the place we will be visiting soon. The new version is t consistent with these desires. The desktop version doesn’t even work on my computer! I submitted negative feedback and even asked for a partial refund on my subscription because the new product was not what I signed up for, but didn’t get an acknowledgment, let alone a useful response.

How many ways are there to saw awful

This is what folks consider an upgrade? This is what was years in the making? Recon gets my thanks for supporting gay kink events. The best way to do that would be an App that works. Annm App worth paying for. It seems my paid subscription simply gives me a crappier version of the free app. Seriously? It’s like ordering a great piece of gear and when it arrives finding out it’s just cheap junk.

New version is horrible

What is this version of Recon you’ve rolled out? It’s terrible: you can no longer filter by guys' body types; you can’t save preset filters (though that’s been an issue for a long time); and you can’t see when a guy was last online or when he created his profile. The old version was far more efficient. You’ve given us a site and an app that are awful to use. On top of that, there are tons of bugs. It’s unacceptable given the cost of the subscription. Please restore the old version—the one where we could save searches with filters.

Guys, honestly… what have you done

Hugely disappointed with the new update (both app and website) I’ve been a long-time user, but this new rollout is a massive step backward. First, you removed the Travel Search. This was an essential feature for planning trips and connecting with guys who were going to be in the same area at the same time. I tried to overlook that loss, but the latest update made things worse. Now, you’ve also removed Keyword Searches. On a niche platform like Recon, keyword filtering is vital for finding compatible matches. Stripping away these core functional features while keeping the membership price exactly the same feels incredibly unfair to paying members. We are paying the same money for a significantly downgraded product. I’ve spoken to many other guys in the community about the new layout, and the consensus is entirely negative. Nobody is happy with these changes. Please listen to your user base and bring back the search tools that made this platform worth paying for.

Laggy, buggy, unintuitive, poor mobile experience

The antiquated, clumsy UX of the old version was replaced with this duplicate of the web interface that’s a navigation nightmare. This is what you get when you don’t design for a mobile experience. The tab bar wastes space on “Feed” and “The Scene” - i’m not sure which one is more useless. And, the account/profile button in the tab bar? Really? How often does a guy look at his own profile? And then to make any changes, you’ve gotta hit the edit button or the gear menu; 2 buttons to make changes and more buttons afterwards. Of course, when you eventually find your way to the profile list, you have a nav bar at the top eating up real estate. The profile pix are bigger now (nice) but then you use tiny fonts with empty whitespace. And, you couldn’t figure out how to combine “Nearby” and “Explore”? Oh, and look, there’s a nice search/filter line eating up space on the top of the page? And what do you end up with? Wow, a few profile pix per page! Have you even looked at any of the other cruising apps? You really should credit the open source components in the app somewhere.

Sad demise of Recon.

The latest app refresh has been a terrible terrible downgrade. It’s slow, clunky and clearly poorly designed. No user feedback has been taken onboard. I wish I could roll back to the old app. It wasn’t great, but it was a hell of a lot better than this trash.

Ads for Paid Members

How dare you force ads on me when I pay $100/yr for your app. Subscription cancelled.

New Updates is a mess

Since the last update, the app has been a total disaster. It's a shame—it used to work just fine. Also I gave Feedback as beta tester, seems all had been ignored

Nice Idea…

Nobody is ever online and now that you have to pay for literally everything you can’t even see the three people who are. This is one of those apps that’s waiting to be replaced.

Disappointed and sad

I’m not interested in seeing who’s around me for hookups. I want to find people who share the same interests, connect with them, and potentially meet them. This isn’t Grindr.

The community is very small and spread across the globe. The people I want to connect with are very unlikely to be my neighbours, so prioritising proximity misses the point entirely.

What quantitative and qualitative data informed the decision behind this redesign? Did you conduct user interviews? Did you test it with users before releasing it? I’m struggling to understand what evidence suggested this update was an improvement.

From a product design perspective this feels like a solution that wasn’t driven by user needs, but by someone with very limited knowledge of the digital product space.

I’m not just disappointed, I’m genuinely sad to see this tool disappear, and it will, because it doesn’t serve its users needs. The app made the community feel connected, and this update moves it in the opposite direction.

Issues with app and website

The site and app seem to work less now that they were updated. It was much more functional in its old form. I constantly am having photos in chats fail to load whether I’m on the app or website.

New version is useless

Not sure how they did it, but the new app is worse than the old one. Virtually useless. Don’t waste your time downloading

Very Disappointed

The new major update is a bust and removed the options I liked best about the site—as an alternating paid and free member. They basically dumbed down the offering and user interface, which tells me Im not their target customer I guess. In many ways it feel like a free template they personalized with Recon branding. Recon used to be chock full of options, very easy to use why viewing many message and profiles together—proving a very rich single screen interface. Now to navigate to all the data points you have to change pages way too often. I worked for Apple SaaS and know what separates an inferior versus brilliant offering. I would seriously think twice of other options.

Terrible

Guys, I’ve been a member since 2000, and I was a paid member for a lot of that time

I’m not sure what’s going on, but the entire site and app and everything has literally become unusable

I’m not sure who’s consulting you on this, but you need to find someone new to overhaul everything

A huge step backwards

It’s seems to be a laggy, clunky wrapper for the website now, with way fewer features. Fetish is more niche, so there aren’t enough guys to make the Grindr-style “who’s nearby” thing interesting. You can’t even see someone’s home city on their profile, only where they are right now (if you can recognize the city name, that is)!

Coincidentally my premium membership expired at the same time this redesign came out and for the first time I am not tempted at all to renew.

Gone downhill

Loved this site years ago. Now there is no good search function and they took away the field where you could enter travel plans. Site is usually now for when I travel.
