ReddPlanet for Reddit User Reviews

Top reviews

My favorite Reddit app on iOS

The developer of this app is incredible. He's been super responsive on the subreddit, and he has also implemented all of my feature requests. I'm really hoping the pushback regarding the upcoming changes to the API will save the third party app ecosystem, because if these apps are killed off, I will stop using Reddit.

Great Reddit client

I'm so pleased to stumble upon this. I've been using Apollo, which is also awesome, but found this while looking at the options available. ReddPlanet was my Reddit client app of choice on Win10(and Win10 mobile). Loved it then and still enjoy using it. Thanks.

PLEASE ADD KEYBOARD SUPPORT

First off for those looking at this app = Get it. This is an awesome app the dev works very hard on and is totally worth it.

Now for my gripes: Rocking the new multi-column version and like it, but the glaring omission is the ability to arrow key UP or Down the article is annoying. Another awesome update would be to not link-out everything in column one… clicking on a article and instead getting a user or subreddit in also annoying. My third ask would to add a suggestion link in the settings of the app to sent rants like this :)

It’s the best alternative to slide

Slide for Reddit is now no longer being developed. This is the best alternative since they don’t collect data and have a robust app.

The second they start collecting *any* data I will stop using (looking at you Apollo) but until then this is the best Reddit app out there.

Best iOS Reddit app I’ve tried!

What the title says. Great stuff, thank you!

A couple pieces of feedback:

• They might be cheesy, but I would really like the option to display user avatars. They help me follow conversations easier, even more so than comment lines do.

• On a similar “ease of navigation” note: if the subreddit banners were a just little less transparent/white, it would help speed recognition of where I am.

• I would love the ability to set autoplay ON for gifs but OFF for videos. Not sure if this is doable with reddit’s API, though.

Overall I’m a very happy subscriber after just one day of testing this app out. Thanks again!

Beautiful app

Thanks to the developer, I was able to get signed in and enjoy this application. It’s providing a great Reddit experience and I’m enjoying using it.

My original review: That’s it, really. Can’t sign in. The app goes through the entire login flow and authenticates, but never acknowledges that I’ve logged in.

Response from developer

There is a currently an issue on Reddit’s end with their login flow. Until they fix it, the best workaround is to spam the “approve” button after entering your password. Hopefully they get it fixed soon.

Doesn’t work with Sign in with Apple

It looks great but sadly I cannot use this until Sign in with Apple is added

The Best so far!

I’ve jumped around to various Reddit apps such as the default Reddit App, Apollo, Narwal, and Slide. I eventually kept with Slide because I loved the interface, but sadly the developer has since abandoned the project and overtime it’s been getting buggy. I knew eventually I would have to find another app.

In search of a new ship to swim to as Slide slowly sinks into the abyss, I found RedPlanet. From the moment I logged into the app, I could tell this app was for me. Images and videos load nearly instant and videos have super responsive controls. Reddit pages, favorite subs, and custom feeds are laid out in the side bar in a way that just makes sense. And the developer is super active with the community and pushes out continual improvements.

Highly recommend!

Great Quality Videos

Saves the highest quality videos out of other apps

Amazing App

Great all around app with a super engaged developer pushing out regular updates.

Feels quite a bit faster than other Reddit apps, just a smooth and intuitive experience to use.

Genuine Ad-Free Reddit

Switched from Apollo after they implemented ads for Pro Users. ReddPlanet let’s you toggle them off even in the free version, but picked it up anyway for the themes. Does everything I want and feels great to use.

Please please add swipe posts

Great app but swipe between posts is missing! Would be a gamec changing reddit browser if it had this feature!

Bye Apollo

This app hasn’t once begged me for $45 like after already paying like trash-tier Apollo.

Feature-wise can’t think of anything I’m missing and the themes are pretty rad. ReddPlanet has replaced Apollo perfectly. Keep up the great work!

No swipe between posts :(

Only if there was swiping between posts, this would be a awesome app!

Best client

Tried Apollo for a bit but didn’t really like how it look. Then I tried Slide which was much better but got abandoned by the developer. Saw Redditors say this app was very similar and I like this one better. Only things I hope get added is being able to search in saved posts like in Apollo and being able to see saved comments. More people need to try this app.

Not great

Auto jump glitches back to the top of subreddit all the time. Easily swipes to Home if you’re browsing all or popular, then you have to reload all or popular and it doesn’t remember where you were so it starts you at top again. It makes me use Reddit less which is probably good though.

Summary

Love this app so far, but here is two tips which would dramatically make the experience better and if there was a chance of me going back to vanilla Reddit it’d be because these aren’t present.

1-Search results are very bad. Searching the same term on Reddit vanilla app vs ReddPlanet shows you where ReddPlanet weakness come. Searching is only good if you’re looking for subreddits or users. Otherwise the search tab is simply useless and would rarely bring up interesting relevant results. Also the amount repeated posts that will show is absolutely unimaginable.

2-Home page refreshing doesn’t generate new posts, but shows the same posts. In vanilla Reddit after I’ve gone a long way down I would go back up and refresh and I’d have new content to look at. This isn’t present as of now in this app. Refreshing doesn’t generate any new content, but shows the same content. The only way to refresh content is to change the posts type you’re looking at and that doesn’t generate good posts at all and isn’t a fix one bit.

I hope these issues presented would get fixed as they’re the only ones I’ve found worth mentioning.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. The app uses Reddit’s search api. If you could provide some feedback on r/ReddPlanet regarding what you might be encountering, I can definitely take a look. As for refreshing the home feed, unfortunately the home feed as shown in the official app isn’t supported for 3rd party apps. I’d love to implement the same feed, but it’s not publicly available to any developers except the official app. The moment they open up that functionality for others, I will be adding it.

Almost perfect.

I already switched from Apollo. But one MASSIVE thing this app needs is the ability to see what your replying to while composing a reply.

This is really my only issue so far. It’s very difficult to compose longer comments with multiple quotes when you can’t see what it is your commenting on.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll get this changed for the next update.

My jaw literally dropped

My jaw literally dropped when I seen the feature that automatically creates an Imgur link for you to post images in the comments, also the way you can preview your comments, such a goated app. Two features I would add though is a reader mode in the built in browser and having the profile pics/avatars show up in the comments! Other than that it’s pretty much THE perfect Reddit app, forget about Apollo and it’s outdated design language (no offense to the developer but it’s just my opinion)

Blows Apollo away in al respects IMO.
