About

Residency Compass is an informational residence-screening tool for checking whether a proposed address may be too close to restricted locations such as schools, daycare centers, parks, playgrounds, and similar place categories. The app is designed for preliminary screening only. It does not provide legal advice, does not guarantee legal compliance, and does not replace review by a licensed attorney, supervising authority, court, agency, or probation/parole department. Use Residency Compass to: • Search or pin a proposed residence address • Screen the address against nearby restricted-place data • Review a clear compliant / non-compliant / indeterminate screening result • See nearby matched restricted places and approximate distances • Compare recent address checks • Export professional PDF reports • Add optional case metadata to exported reports • Save local screening history on device • Use optional device-local Live Dwell Alerts for consent-based location checks Data Sources Used Residency Compass uses the following sources during screening: 1. Apple Maps / Apple MapKit The app uses Apple Maps and Apple MapKit for address lookup, map display, geocoding, local place search, map positioning, and point-of-interest results. 2. OpenStreetMap The app uses OpenStreetMap place data for nearby restricted-location screening. OpenStreetMap data may include public map features such as schools, childcare/daycare locations, parks, playgrounds, recreation areas, churches, and similar mapped places depending on available local data. 3. OpenStreetMap Overpass API The app queries OpenStreetMap data through Overpass-style public map-data requests to identify nearby mapped places and, when available, related geometry or center-point information. 4. Bundled jurisdiction screening profiles Residency Compass includes bundled jurisdiction screening profiles in the app. These profiles define screening distances and restricted-place categories used by the app’s preliminary checks. The current bundled rule file is version 2026.04.07 with an effective date of 2026-04-07. These bundled profiles are screening aids only. The app labels jurisdiction-rule output as requiring counsel or supervising-authority verification before legal reliance. Local ordinances, court orders, parole/probation conditions, municipal rules, and agency policy may be different or more restrictive. Residency Compass is not a government database, not a legal compliance authority, and not a substitute for official records or professional review. Privacy Residency Compass does not include advertising, analytics, or developer-operated user tracking. Saved searches and screening history stay on the device unless the user chooses to export or share a report. Address and location lookups are sent only to the map and public screening services needed to run the check, including Apple Maps / Apple MapKit and OpenStreetMap-based services. Exported reports are shared only when the user uses the system share sheet. Live Dwell Alerts Live Dwell Alerts are optional and device-local. They are intended only for situations where the person has agreed to live location checks. These alerts notify on the same device after dwelling inside an exclusion zone for a selected amount of time. The app does not send remote officer notifications, does not upload continuous location to a developer server, and does not provide a backend monitoring service. Legal Disclaimer Residency Compass provides informational screening only. It is not legal advice and is not a legal determination. Always verify housing decisions with a licensed attorney, supervising authority, court, agency, or other qualified official before relying on any result.
