Most useful extension for Safari

It makes Safari 10x more enjoyable to use!

Smooth as Butter

I love ReTab. This keyboard shortcut is legit one of my favorites. A critical option if you are a Safari user!!!

Response from developer

Thanks so much for your encouragement! Let us know if you got any suggestions to improve ReTab!

Works but…

This extension works but it requires read access to every page you visit (or want to cycle through), meaning it can access very sensitive information like passwords, credit cards, SSN, etc. To me it’s just too risky, which is such a shame since I really find it useful.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback and totally understand the concerns. The reason is that we have to use the "scripting" permission in order to display the list of tabs on each webpage, and the permission includes read access which we can't omit. We promise that we never read any content of the web pages, and you can open the developer console to verify no network call is ever made by ReTab. On the side, we could make a "ReTab Lite" which doesn't show the list of tabs but you can just use key combinations to switch blindly, which would only require tab history permission - if you think you'd like it better that way let us know!

Doesn’t work for the one thing I needed

All I wanted was to close a tab and go back to the previous tab, something that should be native to Safari in the first place. I bought this and opened the extension options and the toggle for this feature is set, yet it doesn’t work. Complete waste of $2

Response from developer

Sorry to hear that, please give a try to the fresh 3.0 which just came out and made significant improvements.

Finally Safari is usable

Works well, just wish the shortcut could match Arc/Zen (Ctrl+tab instead of Cmd+tab)

works like a charm

Quite useful for switching the tabs. Will be more helpful if it opens the tabs I closed recently.

Response from developer

Thanks for the kind words! Wouldn't Cmd+Shift+T work for you to reopen closed tabs?

Saved me from my headache switching over tabs

This thing actually works! I always have way too many tabs open and kept losing track of stuff. Now I can just quickly jump back to whatever I was looking at before. Super simple to use and doesn't mess with anything else. Definitely worth getting if you're like me and can't keep your tabs organized.

A handy tool if you are a shortcut freak like me!

If you’re obsessed with shortcuts, ReTab is a gem. Flying through Safari tabs feels effortless, and you can even set your own keys. I just wish it had a few extra tricks, like closing the current tab while cycling. Overall, a great tool!

Very useful extension

I’ve been waiting for one like this for a long time, so glad to see ReTab, well worth the price.

Works as intended but could be better

On the plus side this works reliably for me compared to TabBack.

However it’d be nice if I could see a visual preview of my previous tabs, like Firefox / Arc do when ctrl-tabbing (or even TabBack’s lackluster list of page titles is better than nothing).

Also like other reviews it’d be nice if I could set a custom shortcut, not sure why this isn’t possible with this extension given TabBack lets you. Is it because TabBack runs in the background perhaps.

Happy to report that the fresh 3.0 just came out which simplified to one shortcut with the visual list - give it a try and let us know!

Doesn’t work

Closing tab to return to previous tab doesn’t work, it just moves one tab to the left

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback and you can toggle that behavior on from the Extension Options page :) Also with the latest update we show a list of your recent tabs that you can choose by cycling through using keyboard or pick with mouse just like how Cmd+Tab works - try it out!

Doesn’t work. Fix it or give me a refund.

The cmd+g doesn’t take you back to the previous tabs you were on. It’s totally random. Charging me for an app that doesn’t function is fraud. Fix it or refund me.

Poor design

One common workflow I have is cycling through three tabs. Retab doesn’t do this. cmd+e only does two tabs, and cmd+g doesn’t update the tab order afterward, so if I use cmd+g then cmd+g again it doesn’t take me back to where I was.

It’s pretty bold to charge money for an incomplete product like this. It doesn’t serve common use cases due to poor design, and it doesn’t let you change the shortcut. I’m pretty sure it’s possible to override ctrl+tab too, correct me if I’m wrong.

Make this free and I’ll give it four stars. Better yet, make it open source. Then someone, maybe me, will fix these flaws, and then I’ll give it five stars.

Simple and intuitive tool!

I have been searching for this feature for so long and finally it's here! works well on MacOS and incredibly easy to use with the keyboard shortcut and super fast response time!

Great extension but can’t customize keyboard shortcut

Being able to easily switch to the last used browser tab is super useful and this extension does that as promised.

However I’m not able to customize the keyboard shortcut as described in the settings - only the default Cmd+E one works. (MacOS Sequoia 15.2)

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback Tetsuwan! Good news! With Safari 26 and later, you can now customize ReTab shortcuts directly in Safari's Extensions settings!

great app

This is the only stable one to go back to previous tabs without crashing Safari, and I can even use it on iPad. This is a must have

Wanted this on iPad for so long!!

I use iPad as my main device instead of laptop, and wanted the last tab switcher so badly, but sad to see that Chrome doesn’t support extensions at all and Safari didn’t have a proper one - until now!!

Love it

I’ve been using another one to switch to last active tab but it kept crashing my Safari once in a while and I was always worrying about losing things halfway through. Glad to find this new plugin and it’s been stable which is a blessing!! Surprisingly it even has an iPad version and man I’m at heaven
