Still The Most Flexible, But …

Roadblock still doesn't have any competition for custom rule filtering, however it is not yet able to control the newest content types of Safari (ping/websocket/other). Please add these. I like to run with very minimal requests by default as it makes things fast and private by default, but it doesn't quite cover all requests. The built-in rules are pretty good, but I am mostly interested in custom filters.

Not 1 Time Payment =S No Thx

I am not paying monthly or yearly payment for an app I never heard of before until now.

territble subscription

i got the subscription for $10 thinking i could block specific domains without blocking subdomains but it turns out no matter how much you try to block just a domain, every subdomain is automatically blocked regardless of what setting you choose. do not buy if wishing to block domains without blocking subdomains

SCAM

It does absolutely nothing. I paid the subscription price and enabled the extension in Safari, but the custom filters DON’T WORK. The Hide Content feature isn’t even functional. You can type in a filter specification, but it doesn’t let you add it! Worthless app. Total scam.

Eh

Does what it says on the tin but needs polishing.

Dragging the window larger horizontally will cause some text to deform and stretch with the window.

The sidebar width can’t be adjusted but the adjust icon appears when hovering over the drag separator.

And quite a few other paper cuts.

Great app, works well

The app works really well, the UI is very clear and it’s easy to switch features on and off. Custom rules are really useful. One minor comment would be that it wasn’t especially clear (pre-purchase) to a novice that one subscription covers all devices (Mac, iPhone, iPad). I subscribed and hoped for the best and it was the case all my devices picked up the premium features but might be worth emphasising somewhere :-)

Accessibility Regressions

Edit: found a workaround, Tab key moves to the Add button so you can add a site to a custom rule, even though it has no label and can't be focussed with VoiceOver. However, disappointing that this is still not fixed. Original review:

Please fix that you can't modify an "Allow Websites" list of sites in the rule edit UI with VoiceOver. For now, I use iCloud Sync and iOS to edit rules. And although I don't like subscriptions, I'm happy to subscribe as the price is so reasonable. However, please don't disable custom rule functionality for existing Pro purchasers as I want the option of not subscribing should it come to that. Thank you.

Recently been blocking EVERYTHING

This use to be a great little extension and even subscribed to the annual plan. But recently it seems to be blocking every single website outright and adding them to a safe list is a big hassle.

You’re the best and you will remain the best.

Please continue to consider the poor who can't afford to pay for premium features, by giving them some of the features to help them browse free without being bugged by ads, and God will continue to elevate you.. Amen..🙏🏽🙏🏽

Response from developer

Thank you very much for the thoughtful feedback. We will continue to offer free features that help in browsing the web in peace 🕊️.

Purchases became Revoked

My app no longer works on my phone and it’s broken. The “Web Resources” tab and media blocking options were removed and replaced with “Languages” tab. When I go to restore my purchases, nothing is restored. I just get some stupid bologna “Thank You” message and how the app has switched to a subscription app.

Well done RoadBlock you’re well on your way to becoming irrelevant. The only unique function of this app was image blocking, however there are plenty of FREE options out there. All anyone has to do is search “Image Blocking.”

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback. The features of the 'Web Resources' section was moved to the 'Custom Rules' section, as it was described in the release notes of version 3. Go to 'More > About > Version History' for more details. Blocking images in version 3 is done using custom rules. Add a new 'Block Content' custom rule and select 'Image' from the 'Resources' section then enable the rule. You can also go to 'More > Custom Rules' and select 'Add Examples' and it will include a new 'Block Images' example. All the other settings that used to be in the 'Web Resources' section can also be done via custom rules by just selecting a different 'Resource' type. Custom rules offer more options so you can easily customize the rule. For example, you can apply the rule on specific websites and more.

Says for free but have to pay

Have to pay subscription if you want all the blockers active at the same time, can only choose one at a time for free

I purchased (Legacy)

What happened? I purchased legacy long time ago. App changed to subscription now?

Update: Appreciate it that you've responded. However the problem persisted. The other features had a "lock" on them and upon pressing on them, I would be prompted to "subscribe." I went ahead and subscribed anyway. Definitely get my bucks worth all those years ago. I will continue to support. Keep up the good work Team!

Subscriptions were introduced in version 3 and they don’t affect any of the features you unlocked via the one-time in-app purchase. If you purchased the one-time in-app purchase in the past then the following premium features will remain unlocked for you: Block Social Widgets, Block Privacy Banners, Custom Rules, and iCloud Sync. Update: Thanks a lot for the feedback. Glad to know you subscribed :)

Changed pricing model

I loved this app, it does everything I need it to do. However I’m very disappointed that when they changed from a one-time purchase to a subscription model, they did not “grandfather in” people who had previously made the one-time purchase.

Other apps that have made that merchandising switch have allowed purchasers to keep the features they paid for. I still use several apps that I paid for once almost 10 years ago, even though I don’t get the new features without a subscription. I think it’s the right thing to do. I’m disappointed that it was not done here. I’ll look for another app that stands by their promises.

My Favorite Content Blocker

I’ve been using Roadblock for years and I think it’s one of the best content blockers available.

Roadblock helps the pages load faster and saves me the data and time that would have been spent loading ads.

From testing multiple content blockers I found Roadblock to be the most effective device-level solution, always blocking more than competitors.

Roadblock also works on YouTube which is a huge benefit.

Recently, the developer implemented a more sustainable subscription model and it is still a very small price to pay annually for an app this effective at blocking ads.

Plus now I get to share the subscription with my family which adds even more value!

Overall, I’ve been very happy with Roadblock and I’m happy to support the developer.

DO NOT TRUST. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY

I had paid for roadblock 2, now IOS has upgraded the software to version 3 which requires a subscription regardless the fact that I’ve recently paid for the full version 2.
Apple should not allow this trick.
Other users have complained the same and the Developer has replied that the previous fearures are still available WHICH IS NOT TRUE because the software does not do the job anymore without paying again…

DO NOT TRUST THIS DEVELOPER AND DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Problem

I found a new problem if you restart your iPad all the roadblock settings will turn off

I love this app it blocks all ads

Ruined app

Was worth the one time fee for ease of use, now gone subscription it’s trash. Go use any of the 100 free ones you can get

Response from developer

Thank you for the review. Roadblock lets you block ads and trackers for free.

MONEY STOLEN DO NOT TRUST

Paid for the app before the subscription model, and now all the features I paid for are removed. No telling what this developer will do in the future please do not waste your money. Adguard Pro offers a one time purchase which not only comes out to being much cheaper but also offers a lot more features, mainly the filters - several ads hidden by AdGuard Pro aren't detected by Roadblock's filters. PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THIS DEVELOPER.

Finally

Looked at probably 20 apps before getting this one, was getting very discouraged with the reviews claiming suprise charges, and exorbitant data usage. This one works perfect, blocks the sites I tell it to, doesnt use hardly any data, thankful for the app. Kudos!

Partly works

Ads show occasionally on YouTube.
