5 yrs later mobile app still sad

Mobile is a complete after thought. I paid for a five year subscription and they never made a remarkable mobile update, not once. Switching to Obsidian because I’m tired of my note taking crippled by slow loading times and a janky interface. The Mac app is Electron, and it’s underwhelming too.

Needs some work

It take roughly 12-15 seconds to open the app, load a nearly empty graph and begin typing. By that time I’ve long forgotten what I wanted to type. I like Roam, and what it’s trying to do but unfortunately it’s next to unusable on mobile. I much prefer other apps or even finding a pen and paper is a better experience that using this app.

Lack of options to change the font size make this app unisable on the latest Mac laptop

Almost there

Native experience is 100x better, now the app is usable. Still missing a key thing: offline mode. The app doesn’t open without internet, only quick notes can be created which aren’t native

Great

Thanks for your efforts. No other tool comes close.

Amazing note-taking experience

The experience of using Roam Research is amazing for taking daily notes on everything. I’ve tried a few different apps, but Roam is the best! The mobile experience is amazing, and navigating between your bookmarks is easy and interactive. The team has worked hard to provide an amazing mobile experience and I’m very happy with this one. Encrypted graphs can be unlocked using Face ID, you can switch between native view, and more! The support team is also very helpful and friendly. Thank you very much!

Keeps getting better

Now with Face ID this is actually quite a good app. The team keeps making it better. If security for roam depot was more clear this would be an amazing app.

Fast, native Roam for iOS

This latest iteration of Roam Mobile is a great user experience, and finally allows you to use Roam in a native way on iOS.

Can’t load large graphs

For a long time, I’ve been unable to use the app because I always get this error: “Your graph is too large, try opening another graph.”

Now I use phonetonote to enter information to Roam on the go. But I still don’t have a way to access my graph.

Native view just works

I’ve been using Roam every day for many years now, mostly on my computer. Today I discovered the “native view” and it’s everything I wanted on the mobile app. No more startup delay, fully responsive, and very native-like. I wish the font was smaller/like their original design but apart from that it’s 5-stars from me.

Mobile has come a long way

Roam Research is the best tool for note taking. Ive been using it since 2020 and its been rock solid for me. The initial hype at its launch has waned considerably, but I still find it faster, easier, and more effective than its competitors. If you’re new or haven’t tried it in a while, I highly encourage you to give it a shot. The mobile app in particular has come out ahead big time.

Make it free

You don’t have a choice. This is dipping. At least give a chance for people to try out rather than asking straight money. It doesn’t make sense anymore. The community is more than half dead.

Impressive pace of improvement on the last weeks

The app has been neglected for a long time, but it now catches up very quickly. There’s been several updates over the last weeks and each of them has some feature that I am using on a regular basis. I am a heavy Roam user, which is my basic work environment right now. The fast mobile extension is a game changer.

Not useable, incomplete App!

I installed the app and created an account but the app is not useable. I get the message below there is no link to website etc. I do not understand how Apple approved an app that is not complete.

“Before using the mobile application, create a graph on the desktop or web app. You can also sign out and sign in to a different account.”

Can’t edit entries

Can’t do a basic task. UI is ugly. UX is weird and very computer-like instead of mobile friendly. App leaves a lot to be desired.

Better than nothing

At least there is an app. Nothing more than opening on a mobile web browser without having to sign in all the time.

Disappointing

I have been with Roam for years, waiting for them to improve at least as fast as the other platforms. However, they are so slow and their app is a total disappointment. Now I’m thinking of transferring all my notes to a more reliable and promising service. It is sad because I started with the Roam about 4 years ago ans thout this is it, this is the ultimate note-taking app that i would need.

Slow load times

The slow load time makes this app unusable. Every time I open it I have to wait 10 seconds for it to load.

Slow performance and poor usability

The speed of page loads is frustratingly slow regardless of the size or type of data pages contain. It consistently saps productivity.

Countless usability issues make authoring any form or length of writing cumbersome. Because of this, I now often first use a different application (such as Apple Notes, Google Docs, etc.) to perform the majority of my work; only after I create the bulk of the content I need to produce do I then transfer it into Roam.

Roam has significant potential but it's squandered due to a lack of human-centered design and not meeting table-stake performance expectations.

iPhone app unusable

The desktop version is fantastic but the iPhone app is unusable. It’s impossible to type continuously without the UI bugging out, and this has been left unfixed for several years.
