Interface hard to understand
Text snippets seem straightford. However, I tried creating a snippet which enters today’s date in the format yyyy-mm-dd. One hour later, still defeated after trying everything. Why so opaque?
Very Powerful, but lacking simple features and some recurrent bugs
I overall really like Rocket Typist and use it about every hour when on phone, especially the code feature, which is very powerful.
Enjoyable features:
- code to use JavaScript
- hold down on keyboard to move cursor
- option to show snippet suggestions above keyboard while typing
Lacked features:
- toggle off auto-capitalization at start of sentence
- toggle off double-space making a period
- toggle on auto-expand when finishing input (preferably togglable for individual macros)
- toggle for "All Snippets" category to default to eg Code, rather than Plain Text
- expand macro from start of word, rather than needing word-breaks on both sides
- option to search snippets by both abbreviation and content, but only use abbreviations in snippet suggestions area above keyboard
Bugs:
- when Rocket Typist keyboard is active, moving the cursor through text auto-expands matching macros
- the JavaScript code is not programmatically hygienic, so it can be unpredictable with complex macros (for dev: look up how Racket (a Lisp) does macros; it's cleaner)
- toggling off haptics doesn't work
- if in Snippet Preview view, when creating new macro it still starts in Snippet Preview, rather than default view

Fantastic Snippet App! Used for years. User-friendly and well built!
This is a great app if you want to save a ton of time at a very reasonable price.
I probably save hours each week using snippets/Rocket Typist.
If you don’t know, what snippets are you need to learn about them ASAP :)

None of the hyperlinks are highlighted and linked. The appear just as text in preview mode. Also, the image snippets do not appear in preview mode.

The best text expander for Mac
And no subscription! Works for iOS and MacOS, syncs well. Great stuff.
Works well
Tried quite a few and settled on this. Reasonable memory usage, easy and quick access, works in all scenarios. And not a subscription like textexpander.
Inconsistent, and don’t expect support
I found RT to be highly inconsistent for pasting images (and rich text with image content). It works in some applications, but not others.
I tried to alert the dev to this, and never got a response. It’s been months. Crickets.

You can’t import your snippets
Exporting your snippets to file give you an error.

Excellent app
I have tried most of the text expander apps and this is the one I use. It is easy to use , has all the features I need and is well supported (I had a reply to a feature request - which was implemented! - in 48 hours). It syncs and works well with iOS, which most text expanders do not. And a sensible price. Thoroughly recommend.

Promising
One suggestion is to have a Paste style board that is more visual about what snippets I have (helpful especially when I don’t have many snippets), rather than having to recall and type, and the same goes for its iOS version. I wish the developer every success, especially in this world where an alarm clock wants your subscription.

Gets the job done but cumbersome to change snippet
A few things that are unintuitive
1. have to add the app yourself to list of authorized items in security settings (other apps do this automatically)
2. very slow and difficult to change snippets. I wish it was just a cell to enter and change, but you have to click 2 times and in a space you cannot really tell if there is no abbreviation present. They should have a forum to share problems and improve the UI.

Useful! Not the most intuitive UI
I saw a friend using RocketTypist and asked her what program she was using. When she told me, I immediately downloaded the free version on my MacBook and started using it. I was surprised by how useful it’s been!!! I ended up purchasing the Pro version on my Mac.
Today, I decided to install it on my iPhone also, and at this point, I felt I should pay for that too, just to support the development of the app.
I will say that it took me a while to figure out the UI on my
MacBook. It is not intuitive. I almost gave up in frustration but kept clicking and trying different things until I finally figured it out. If it wasn’t for that, this would get a solid 5 stars from me. 🌟
Today, I decided to install it on my iPhone also, and at this point, I felt I should pay for that too, just to support the development of the app.
I will say that it took me a while to figure out the UI on my

[update - don’t use with setapp sync mac + iphone] Please fix iOS PRO login - So g
(update). setapp creates bugs. if you want to use this i highly recommend deleting setapp and just using both versions natively.

2 days later, somehow I’m logged out of iPhone app. Can’t add any more snippets and it says I need to buy the pro version. Yet when I try to login to restore version it just silently errors. So now I can’t add more snippets. How am I logged out the iPhone app when in my settings I’m clearly logged in.
So many silent bugs. Please fix this (I can’t login on iPhone app(even tho I bought it)and can’t add my snippets.

Needs Work
I don't like being interrupted to give reviews - please stop the app doing that.
After two days on the mac, I have been unable to get this app to work reliably. I have had to reinstall on both iPad and Mac twice to get iCloud sync working, and currently expansion is not working on the mac at all - (it did yesterday - but not today).
I have been trying for a couple of days with this and if I can't get it working soon I'll look for something else.
Sadly, I think this has been a waste of money

Hi, Thanks for your detailed report. It sounds like you’re using Setapp to activate the Pro version, is that correct? If you’re not using Setapp, no login is required. Could you confirm if you’re using Setapp on both your iPhone and Mac? It seems like this issue may be related to Setapp’s syncing, not Rocket Typist. Workflow Game Changer!
This program has been a game-changer for me! It’s not just for text snippets anymore. You can also paste images and other clipboard items. I use it all the time when editing in Final Cut to quickly add repeating titles and other stuff.
Best solution for snippets on iOS/Mac together
I'm pleased with this app, considering the significant limitations of text expander apps on iOS. I would REALLY like to see 1 thing added: The ability to add a video in an image snippet. I use short video clips in lieu of animated gifs frequently because they're often smaller in file size.
