About

Romanian Whist is a trick-taking game for 3-6 players where winning the most tricks is exactly the wrong goal. Each round you predict how many tricks you'll take - and you only score if you hit that number precisely. One too many hurts just as much as one too few. HOW A GAME GOES Rounds start with a single card each, climb to eight, and come back down again. The deck resizes to the size of your table, so the cards stay meaningful whether there are three of you or six. After the deal, one card is turned face up to set the trump - except in the eight-card rounds, where every card is dealt and there is no trump at all. Then the bidding, and the twist that makes the game: the last player to bid is forbidden from making the numbers add up neatly. Someone at the table is always going to be wrong. THREE WAYS TO PLAY • Solo - against AI opponents that count the cards, work out who has run out of which suit, and read what the bidding gives away • Pass and play - three to six people, one device, no setup • Online - create a room, share the link, play with friends anywhere WHERE IT GETS TENSE • Make your bid exactly and you score five points plus your bid. Miss it and you lose the difference. • String enough correct bids together and you earn a bonus - a run worth protecting, and worth breaking. • If every player misses in the same round, the round is void. Fresh cards, same dealer, nothing scored. • At the halfway point you can declare you are Playing for Zero. Finish the game on exactly nothing and you win outright, whoever is ahead. Finish on anything else and you lose. The choice is irreversible. The full rules are built in, so nobody has to be the person who explains them. No ads. No accounts. No in-app purchases.

What's New in Romanian Whist

2.0

August 11, 2026

Version 2.0 adds Solo mode - a full game against AI opponents, whenever you want one, with nobody else needed. SOLO MODE Choose two to five opponents, name them, and play a complete game from the one-card rounds all the way through. They are not filler. They remember every card that has been played, work out which players have run out of which suits, read the information hidden in everyone else's bids, and solve the ending exactly once few enough cards remain. They bid carefully in the short rounds, where a single card decides everything, and they know what to do with the Play for Zero rule rather than stumbling into it. They also think in the background, so the game never freezes while an opponent makes up its mind. Step away part-way through and your game will be waiting on the menu when you come back. BUILT FOR EVERY IPHONE The table, cards, seat labels and text now size themselves to your screen instead of using one fixed layout. On smaller phones nothing runs off the edge or crowds the middle of the table; on larger ones the game finally uses the space it has. Editing a name no longer shoves the screen around. A PROPER TRUMP REVEAL The trump card now turns face up in the middle of the table, holds long enough to read, and then flies into the round panel where it stays for the rest of the round. HARDER TO LOSE A GAME BY ACCIDENT Leaving a game or a room now asks first, and tells you exactly what it will cost before you do it. FIXES • Fixed a freeze when a round was replayed after every player had missed their bid • Fixed a crash on opening the app if an online game you were in had lost too many players to carry on • Player names are capped so they can no longer overflow the table Now supports iOS 17 and later.
