About

Ronneby is the oldest town in Blekinge and has a fascinating history. During the Middle Ages, it was the only town of any significance in Blekinge, thanks to its location on the navigable Ronneby River and the roads that converged on it. Blekinge’s most notable architectural landmark, the Church of the Holy Cross, was built during this period. Ronneby takes its name from the Ronneby River, which was originally called Rotne å and means “the roaring river.” The Ronneby River, with its roaring rapids and waterfalls, flows through the city center and on to Brunnsparken before emptying into Ronneby Harbor and the beautiful archipelago. In the app, you’ll find audio guides that let you explore Ronneby’s historic city center and the stories that have shaped the place. You can stroll at your own pace through the city center and Brunnsparken—listen, look, and discover more about the buildings, environments, and people who have left their mark on the city. There are also audio walks to discover around Ronneby. For example, hear the story of the remarkable archaeological finds made in Västra Vång, which show that an important temple stood here during the Iron Age. Or visit the mighty Björketorp runestone. For children and young people, there is a special audio tour about the legendary ship Gribshunden. Through a playful narrative, you’ll be taken on a journey through history and learn about the ship that sank off the coast of Ronneby in 1495. The app also invites you to discover historical objects in AR. Watch artifacts appear before your eyes and get closer to history in a whole new way. New stories and experiences will be added regularly—so stay tuned and keep exploring Ronneby. The app is free!
