Has Potential!
I really like the look and mission of this app, and I know it’s still new and likely a small team behind it and I wish you guys well on that mission as I’d love for this to be where my friends and I can stay in the long term.
There are some things here and there where cracks show in it being a newer app, such as errors giving general info but not telling you why it’s not working. I tried sending a photo that’s 17MB big and got a file size error, after much research it’s because it was a RAW file, not the size. And my server that I just started so it’s just me and two apps I’ve added says there are 4 people online… but even if I include the two apps there’s no fourth person. Even the member list only shows 3 members, so 4 is definitely wrong.
Upon downloading this on my PC I found out this was a Chromium app and that immediately feels against the sales pitch I was given about the platform being private and secure. And for that reason alone, my friends are not jumping with me to Root.

Better than Discord
Switched over from Discord after their lack of data integrity and their “nickel and diming” nature for some as simple as changing the font of your name. Root has been great and it also has a bright future. Hoping it continues

root was almost great. it was almost good enough to replace discord. it was comforting to know my privacy would be safer here and not handed over to any AI or any other person/place that may invade my privacy. however. i have been using the app for months now and nothing has improved at all. i still cant send SHORT photos/videos/files to my friends. hardly anybody is here. there’s no public servers or bots to customize your server with. this app may be fine for you if you lack personality or just looking for a simple, basic messaging app. but to me it’s been a complete waste of my time and i almost considered going back to discord if it weren’t for them forcing AI and personal identifiers against us. what a massive letdown.

It’s so nice to have an alternative to discord that allows me to send images and videos without needing a subscription. It’s also really user friendly when creating servers and editing them.
