What's New in RRS Coach

1.7.0

November 4, 2026

Call it before the simulator does. • Predict mode — the simulator pauses as boats close and asks who must keep clear and under which rule, then shows you. Situations you miss come back in your Review deck. • Who has right of way? — describe the situation in three taps and get an instant answer: what you must do, what they must do, and the rule behind it. Free for everyone. • A simulator that sails — boat speed depends on the angle to the wind, a tack costs speed that takes a few seconds to win back, and collisions match exactly what you see. • Rules 15, 16 and 17, live — the simulator flags the moment a boat must give room as rights change, shows a boat's proper course, and calls it when a boat that came from astern sails above it. • Room to tack at an obstruction — at a shore, a boat can hail "Room to tack!" and the other boat tacks or replies "You tack", played out under Rule 20. • Start and finish lines in the simulator, so the OCS, recall and finishing scenarios can be played out. • Scenarios meet the simulator — on who-keeps-clear scenarios, try it in Predict mode before you answer. After any answer, See it play out opens the situation you were reading: a boat mid-tack stays mid-tack, a capsized boat is there to avoid, and the button is hidden where there is nothing to sail. • Racing soon? Set your next event in Settings — Home counts down to it with a daily goal paced to cover your weak spots. Set the month your season starts too. • Reminders your way — pick any time, and turn daily practice, streak, event countdown (30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 day out), season start (three weeks and one week before) and the new Review deck reminder on or off one by one. See what arrives next. Still never more than one a day. • Find your weak spots — a 3-minute baseline test across every section of the rules, then a map of where you stand. What you miss goes into your Review deck. • Every boat redrawn — scenario, quiz and rule diagrams now use the same dinghy hull the simulator draws, at the same size, so a hull length on the page is a hull length in the rules. Boat letters are easier to read too. • Diagrams corrected throughout — dozens of scenarios where the picture and the words disagreed about an overlap, which boat was inside at a mark, or which side a mark was left on. • New scenarios — finishing, now that the 2025-2028 rules narrowed it to the hull (a spinnaker across the line is no longer a finish), and Rule 25: signals defined in the sailing instructions, and what counts as a flag. Rule 20 scenarios corrected. • Quiz corrections — six questions linked to the wrong rule, and two carried the old rule numbers for Decision to Race and Acceptance of the Rules, which the 2025-2028 book swapped. • Better layouts at large text sizes, and free users now see progress against the scenarios they can open. • Dark mode fix — boat labels in the simulator were white on a pale background.

User reviews

Massively underrated app

I’m surprised this app doesn’t have more reviews. For a casual sailor interested in getting into more competitive racing, this app is exactly what I need. Easy to navigate, clear, with great scenarios, and it tracks all your progress. Free version is great, but the paid version is inexpensive and even better. Highly recommend
