About

RUE Dictionary is the mobile version of the open community project slovo.sochka.com, which has united native speakers and enthusiasts of the Rusyn language since 2010 to preserve, develop, and promote the linguistic heritage of the Carpathian region. The Rusyn language (RUE, ISO 639-3) is spoken by Rusyn communities in Zakarpattia, Eastern Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Poland, as well as by diaspora communities in the United States and Canada. The global Rusyn population is estimated at approximately 1.5 million people. The app provides quick access to thousands of Rusyn words and their Ukrainian equivalents. It can be used as a dictionary, a reference tool, a Zakarpattian translator, or a resource for learning local linguistic traditions. The dictionary works offline, allowing access anytime without an Internet connection. What makes this project unique is its open and community-driven nature. Anyone who knows and actively uses the Rusyn language can become a contributor. Users can suggest new words, improve existing entries, correct inaccuracies, and help expand one of the largest open collections of Rusyn vocabulary. Language is constantly evolving, and every contribution matters. Through the efforts of its community, the dictionary serves not only as a translation tool but also as a living knowledge base dedicated to preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of the Rusyn people. Key features: • Search Rusyn and Ukrainian words; • Fast access to a large dictionary database; • Full offline functionality; • Regular vocabulary updates; • User-friendly interface for everyday use; • Opportunity to contribute as an author or editor. The Rusyn language is also known as Ruthenian, Carpatho-Rusyn, Rusnak, or Zakarpattian. Regardless of differing linguistic classifications, it remains an important part of the cultural heritage of the Carpathian region. Our mission is to help preserve this heritage for future generations and make it accessible to everyone. Join our community of contributors and help preserve the Rusyn language together with us.
