Horrific nightmare
Do not waste your money to upgrade your heating and air conditioning to this system, absolutely a nightmare! Not only is the units themselves difficult to connect to your home, but this software and app are completely useless for anything. There is zero smart controls with this app! Nothing works with this app other than on or off. The schedules constantly change on there own, you can’t alter or adjust. If you attempt to control your home thermostat you have to have heat and air conditioning on at the same time (seriously who runs both ever during the year). You are constantly fighting and changing the times. It’s more of a hassle then smart technology. THEN the units and software to your home are atrocious, if you have a home build within the last 20 years. Don’t do it! Read all these negative reviews and run. There is NOTHING smart nor positive about this system. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!

Worst app I’ve ever used
It doesn’t work, it’s overly invasive, it’s a data capturing machine for ruud and will make owning a ruud unit a nightmare. They haven’t updated it for seven months which tells you what you need to know. It prompts to verify my phone number after I verified email and now I can’t log in or use Wi-Fi to connect to my unit. Do not buy ruud appliances or you’ll be stuck with their garbage controls.

Works maybe 10% of the time
Probably the worst app I’ve ever used. It displays the incorrect current temp, will let me think I’m changing the temp but it actually doesn’t “take”, and is constantly disconnecting and reconnecting. Switching from wifi to data doesn’t help. Frustrating.
Garbage app
This app is pure garbage. It will randomly just not connect to your system, and half the time won’t apply the change you made to the temperature or any other system setting. The developer clearly cares nothing about whether this app actually functions properly as it has been this way for years.
Terrible App
My HVAC company installed a new Ruud furnace/ac and this Econet thermostat. They suggested the app but I find it’s functions are very limited and unlike most device apps it’s much easier to work from the device (thermostat) itself. Ruud should get some tech folks to redesign/upgrade this terrible/weak app!

Gah I hate this thing
I’ve had new unit installed for less than 24 hours and this app is trash. Keeps disconnecting, reads differently than what’s on wall panel, saved settings keep changing, no rhyme or reason when air comes on. I wish I could go back to my Nest.
App on iPhone and iPads stopped working
I’ve had my RUUD heat pump system for almost a year. I controlled my old system with a Nest learning thermostat, that I had to give up since it wasn’t compatible with the new system.
The app to control my system remotely, didn’t have the same features that I had gotten used to, such as automatic “away” setting when my I left home, but at least I was able to manually change the heat/cool settings if I remembered to.
However, last night, I couldn’t sign in to the app on either my iPhone or iPad. Tried everything including deleting and reinstalling the app, resetting the wifi connection on the thermostat, to making sure my router was connected to my devices.
The app just stopping working!! I put in my log in and the little ball keeps spinning and after a while I see “There Was An Error. An error occurred. Please try again later.” It’s 10 hours later and I still cannot connect!!
I miss my Nest!

App worked on initial setup!
Problem-1: it signed itself out and then received error, when attempted to sign back in. Said my info did not match ID or PW when trying to sign back in. Changed the password with great difficulty. Kept receiving error comeback later. Finally prevailed after a day. But now, cannot sign in! Continued error, Internet is up and running no issue either. Problem-2: you purchase a brand new system, dropping $$$$$.$$ on it you’d think that you’d see 5-star ratings for the app? Nada! Zilch! And you’d expect the technical support for the app to “Roger Up,” to some of the 1-star ratings? Nada, Zilch! Disturbing accept for the few bogus 4/5 Star rating! For the now “poor form!” Poor app performance! Will update and rate the app accordingly.

Temperature changes when it wants to
You can try to change the temperature in the App and sometimes it’ll change it and sometimes it just won’t take the change.
A dreadful app
Getting hooked up + resetting anything is a royal pain. I would rather have a panel on the unit to set up than this awful app.
No Go from the start
The app will not let me create an account, and without an account you can’t do anything. I tried from another device and even a laptop, and I keep on getting all kinds of errors. So it seems like nothing related to this app is up-to-date or functional at all. So the advertised connectivity features are worthless.

Waste of time
The app delivers zero useful information. It tells the set temp but not the current or actual water temp.
Great concept, but that is all it is.
I read the hype, took the bait and now have wasted almost 2 hours with a cute app that tells me the temperature I set my unit at but doesn’t let me do anything else.
I should have realized a lot sooner, like when the unit instructions didn’t match the app instructions, or even when the “Guided Tour” ended with pressing the “Yes” button. Or maybe that the app kept locking up and I had to close it and reopen.
I guess the positive out of this is that I should be able to check it to tell if I remembered to put it in vacation mode before I left, not that I can change it, but will at least know I forgot.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Frustrating
App hasn't worked in week. Very frustrating since it is in my second home 3 hours away.
A poorly designed system
Our 2 year old Ruud system, allegedly highly efficient compared to our 25 year old system, has saved us nothing. I looked forward to the Econet control, and the temperature and humidity are never what we expect.
Will not connect
Can’t use my internet. Been trying to connect for hours. I select the internet, put in password, then wait……then comes back with error.
Latest update is broken
I can’t change the temperature of my AC thermostat with version 4.0.8 of the app.
A fraction of what it should be
As a professional contractor, I love ruud/rheem equipment. It’s dependable, efficient, and usually doesn’t have many issues. I even like econet thermostats as they offer a decent degree of control over your high efficient equipment (if you know how to use them).
Then there’s the econet app. The app allows very limited use of your thermostat from a distance. You can’t control your humidifier if you have one. You can’t monitor furnace or a/c functions very well or make advanced adjustments. And above all, the app will randomly disconnect from the thermostat or WiFi, which you almost need a professional to reconnect (a common issue for homeowners).
For the price of the thermostat I would expect more functionality and dependability. With that said, you need this thermostat to get the best use of the 96%+ efficient models of furnaces. The software team needs to update some things on the app in order for this thermostat to be what it should be.

SO inferior to Nest!
This app and the associated thermostat that I am required to have in order to receive the full functionality of our new hvac unit are about enough for us to never recommend a RUUD hvac unit to friends/family and to avoid RUUD altogether when one of our other units goes out (which will likely be sooner rather than later). More than likely, when it’s time to replace one of our other units, we will only look at units that are fully compatible with Nest.
As others have aptly noted, and as a Nest user until replacing my AC unit this month, the econet thermostat and associated app absolutely pale in comparison to Nest. If there were any way to connect the Nest to the hvac unit without losing some of the hvac/thermostat communication functions, I would in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, the Nest does not appear to be fully compatible with the new RUUD hvac unit, so I’m stuck with this inferior rubbish.
Anyone forced to switch to this from Nest will certainly understand.

Horrible compared to every other modern thermostat
So it turns out that with Ruud, you have to use their thermostat with their equipment. They could learn a ton from Nest, where the app actually shows the same temperature as the thermostat. I wake up freezing every morning, so I open the app, where it will show it being 68deg and put the temperature to 70deg (since it doesn’t learn). Then when I get out of bed and look at the actual thermostat, it will read the current temperature as 65deg. It doesn’t matter if I restart the app or not, it is basically a random app that is only used as a switch. If I’m cold, I just raise the temp setting on the app by 2 degrees so it comes on until I get to the thermostat.
If it were an option, I would replace my entire brand new system for another one solely on the basis that the app for the thermostat is SO HORRIBLE. SO HORRIBLE.
