High quality

The app is still early and there are obviously some refinements needed but I already love Granite Waves and can’t wait for Infinit, very new type of experience tbh, short episodes but very high quality

Stories you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else

Me and my husband had a blast watching the first few instalments of granite wave. I know nothing about the creators or this app or the price. But I know good work when I see it. Making shows is expensive especially to this calibre, people forget that. I prefer these people get the chance to realise their dream then live in a world where only the already rich get a chance. Worth the money.

Amazing app! So glad indie creators now have somewhere to post their beautiful animations!!!

Needs a monthly payment option

I will gladly download this app and immediately pay $15 for monthly subscription if that becomes an option… but the currently available prices are a little steep. Super cool mission these guys are trying to accomplish with supporting smaller, original animators, but I think they’d get a lot more subs if they made monthly subscriptions available.

10,000 Hours is a complete lie

There was a nothing to watch yet! What did I just pay for?!? Literally 9, 2 minute episodes. What a rip off. Don’t sell memberships until you have actual episodes uploaded. Cancelled!

Currency issue

Why do other countries have it cheaper than the UK? I looked up currency conversion and the numbers are huge. This seems to be very typical for people from the UK. We get overcharged all the time, and this is the first team I’ve seen it this huge.

Awesome

This is an a absolutely awesome project, and I‘m looking forward to what’s in store for the future. Ryuu is just starting out, but if the quality stays at this level, this’ll be my favorite streaming platform. The stories so far are highly creative, the animation and audio narration is top notch, and the small (but growing) developer team really care about providing a great functioning platform. If you’re tired of Netflix and other big corporate platforms, this might be the safe haven you’ve been looking for.

Amazing for Anime fans!

Love the original content and can’t wait for the new drops!

False advertising

The app itself is user friendly although the lack of content does not justify the subscription price.
Ryuu website clearly states "daily 2min episodes incoming" unfortunately this is false.
Official release date was August 25 2006 and it's currently mid October. Subscribers are waiting over a week for a 2 minute episode. There are no set dates for ongoing episodes on the app, only "coming soon". A total of 9 clips of Granite waves have been released ... what are subscribers paying for??
It's very frustrating, at least announce a realistic time frame for episode release dates, either reduce the subscription or update the Ryuu website so fans aren't left disappointed.

I would recommend to subscribe mid next year til more content has been completed to save subscribers money and time waiting for new content

Awesome show, early app and I want more

I watched the videos on YT and ended up here, I have a couple subscriptions like that for webcomics so excited to give it a go with animation. What I think a lot of people from reviews don’t understand is that it’s both APP and PRODUCTION STUDIO so they can’t be a free app with ads if you want this quality of shows. Don’t expect Netflix corp but an early stage project that you are backing and you’ll be happy cheers

No refund

I unknowingly paid $40 for 10 minutes of content on a very confusing app. I love independent artists doing cool stuff like this but it needs to be more transparent and affordable for what they’re selling.

Price

Granite Waves caught my interest but I won’t sub unless the price drops. I understand why it’s expensive but I just can’t do it.

Not Yet

The other written review is kind enough to give four stars, but the false advertising isn’t something I found acceptable.
They’re charging $39 for three months or $96 for a year. The app only has 12 shorts right now. The company should have soft launched with a low cost point until trust was established and a handful of shows were ready.

Subscription plans are unfair

They only allow a year long or a 3 month plan the latter of which is still $40. For someone who wants to try the app this is very steep. If I don’t use the app consistently for 3 months it’s not worth it as I don’t have that kind of extra income. Really disappointing as I found a show I was very intrigued by but I will likely never know.

Thoughts

Really love the series this platform offers. It’s so clear the love and passion put into the projects. Of course the asking price is a little steep, but starting a new project always takes a lot of funding ESPECIALLY when you’re paying artists fairly. I just wish I could see the length of the episodes before purchasing to make an informed decision.

Very expensive

It’s so expensive for Canadians only, why?

Too expensive

There are only three shows, and they haven’t even finished them. I believe you could watch everything they provide in less than 30 mins. For that reason, it’s not worth the price of the subscription.
HOWEVER the story and graphics are amazing, and I’m very hopeful for this unique concept.
I personally will not be paying for the subscription at the moment, but will keep the app in case their library expands in the future. 🫡 until then Ryuu

Pretty app and good concept, very expensive

I like the app concept and the fact that you show off internet creators, but the monetization is very expensive for what it offers. It costs almost the same as Netflix but for less and shorter shows. I would rather watch ads between episodes ; I won’t be paying 55$ for 3 months (almost 20$ per month!!!) for vertical animes.

And to be clear, you can’t watch anything that isn’t pilots without a subscription. It’s not worth downloading if you’re not going to put money into it. It also forces you to give up your email and to create an account before you get to know all this, obviously.

Too expensive

The subscriptions is way too expensive, I get the artist gotta get paid but $96 in this economy a year is a little crazy considering that’s with a $60 discount and then the quarterly option is $39 there should be like a monthly or weekly option especially since it’s a newer app so there’s not really much to watch. I’m sure someone could sit trough all the content in just an hour there’s no enough content for a three month subscription

Affordable options are needed

I genuinely believe independent animators deserve to be compensated for their hard work. Animation requires an incredible amount of time, creativity and dedication, and creators deserve the opportunity to make a living from their art.

However, I find the subscription prices on this platform incredibly disappointing and exclusionary.

£40 for three months, approximately £90 for a discounted annual subscription, £160 at full price, and a legendary season pass costing £419. These prices are simply unrealistic for many people, especially during a cost-of-living crisis.

What’s particularly frustrating is that many independent animations have built their audiences through years of community support. People have watched, shared, recommended and helped these projects grow, only to potentially find themselves priced out of continuing to enjoy them.

It’s also worth considering that many viewers may be teenagers, students and young adults who simply don’t have that kind of disposable income.

I’m not suggesting that independent animation should be free or that animators shouldn’t be paid. Quite the opposite. I want independent animation to succeed, but I also believe accessibility should be part of that success.

Why not introduce a more affordable, ad-supported subscription tier? Something around £5–£10 per month, where viewers can watch advertisements in exchange for a lower subscription price, much like other streaming services offer.

This would give people more flexibility while still creating opportunities for the platform and its animators to generate revenue.

Not everyone can afford expensive subscriptions, and that shouldn’t mean they’re excluded from supporting independent art.
