Very useful

I do have recipes everywhere and it is a royal pain to go through to fund the ones I want to use.

With recipes printed out, I have duplicates, ones I tried and did not like, and ones I love. The hard part was organizing them and this app fit the bill.

I have auto created lists, organized recipes, and I can even have different variations of them just by asking it to accomodate whoever’s dietary needs.

Amazing app!

I love this app! Beyond just searching for recipes, I’ve used it to help me use up leftovers and odd ingredients I had in my fridge or freezer that I needed to use before it expires. I’ve also taken photos of stuff and asked it to give me suggestions on what to make with it. Like last night, I had a container of beef broth, and I wanted to make a dumpling soup with it. I took a photo of the beef broth and uploaded. It came back with a great recipe that was diabetic friendly because I needed it to be for my husband, who is diabetic. I keep my shopping list in Sage and it has helped me not forget items at the grocery stores. There’s nothing worse than going to the store for a specific ingredient or item and coming home with a bunch of stuff other than the ingredient or item you went to the store for! I love the chat part of the app too. I think it is the best kitchen assistant that everyone should use!

Good Free App Turned Overpriced Subscription

Sage used to be a really solid free recipe app—nothing flashy, but genuinely useful. The UI wasn’t the best, but it worked well and didn’t hide basic features behind a paywall. It felt like a nice change from all the subscription-heavy apps out there.

Now they’re charging $5/month, and it just doesn’t match the value. You can do the same things with any AI app and a quick import for free, it’s basically paying for a couple fewer clicks. I get that they need to make money, but they haven’t added nearly enough to justify a recurring subscription at that price.

If it were a one-time purchase, I’d consider it. But $5/month for what used to be a simple, free tool just feels excessive.

Response from developer

We’d love to make Sage free forever, but AI is not free, even for other apps that give it away (for now). So we introduced a sustainable subscription option for those who need to use lots of AI features. The rest of the app (recipe books, shopping lists, sharing, search) remains free. Thanks for trying Sage regardless!

Easy to use hard to access

Super handy to import all my recipes and I love having them all organized. Appreciate that it’s free. However now I get the loading bar of death forever when I’m trying to access my recipes and I can’t get them when I need them. Love the new search functionality.

Response from developer

Thank you for the kind words about the import and search features! The loading issue you described sounds like a sync bug we've been tracking down. Could you email us at contact@cookwithsage.com? We'd love to get this fixed for you specifically. — The Sage Team

Convenient and easy to use

I find the app extremely helpful for organizing recipes I’ve found online as well as searching for recipes I need.
