What's New in Sakina

1.3.4

August 7, 2026

This update brings a khatam planner, a map view for the qibla, and a lot more control over recitation. NEW — Khatam planner Set a pace by juz or by pages, pick how long you want to take, and Sakina works out the daily portion. Today's reading opens straight at the right ayah, and your progress, streak and whether you're on track are all kept on your device. NEW — Qibla map The Qibla screen now has two tabs. Alongside the compass, a map draws the path from where you are to the Kaaba — following the great circle, so it matches the direction the compass points. There's a small heading compass in the corner, plus distance, bearing and your coordinates, and a button to open the route in Maps. NEW — Repeat a range From the reading menu, choose a start and end ayah, how many times to repeat, and whether the count applies to the whole range or to each ayah in turn. Ayah numbers can be typed in directly, so long surahs are quick to set up. Your last settings are remembered per surah. NEW — Recitation speed Play recitation from 0.75x up to 2x. The setting applies everywhere audio plays. NEW — Arabic-only reading A single switch hides translations so only the Arabic text is shown. NEW — Recite with the tasbih Choose a short ayah or dhikr to keep in front of you while you count. IMPROVED — Bismillah The Bismillah is now shown as its own line at the head of a surah rather than being folded into the first ayah. Al-Fatiha keeps it as verse one and At-Tawbah has none, as they should. FIXED - Recitation no longer carries on past the end of a selected section. - Playing a short passage only downloads that passage instead of the whole surah. - Reciters that only offer whole-surah audio now explain the choice instead of quietly playing the whole thing.
